Ch78 - Science

The next morning flew by. Everyone kept reminding me of the economics test and I kept lying that I was ready for it.

To be honest, I had something else on my mind. I'd finally asked my good friend Google what I should do with the whole Derek theory and he gave a lot of options. But before I did anything, I first wanted to test my theory. I could not risk making it awkward between Derek and me. I would not be able to survive that.

After school I walked to Derek's place. When I was in front of the building, I started walking more silently. I needed to surprise him.

I sneaked all the way up to the door. I'd caught Derek's scent so I figured that he'd be home. I think... I'm still not good at the sniffing thing.

I was extra careful not to make a sound while opening the door. I opened it until I fit through and silently closed it behind me. 

It's been a while since I was this quiet, I thought to myself. Well apparently I was naturally good at it since I've learned to hide my scent from my own pack... something like that. I don't know. Even though Derek explained their theories to me, it was still kinda fuzzy and weird.

I closed my eyes to focus on my hearing. One heartbeat in the kitchen. I sneaked to the corner and leaned against the cold stone. 50% chance that he's looking my way, I lied to myself.

Luck was on my side; Derek was facing the fridge. He seemed to be in thoughts too, which only increased my chances of actually being able to go through with this plan. The closer I got to being caught, the worse my plan began to sound.

Ah too late to back out now.

Well actually, I could still turn around.

Shut up brain. Don't try to be a smart ass now.

I got closer and stopped about a meter behind him. In one swift motion, I grabbed his arm and turned him around. I knew I'd scared the crap out of him. He was halfway through shifting when he saw that it was me. He immediately shifted back but that wasn't the test I wanted to do.

And I already knew my answer to my test. As soon as Derek saw me, his pupils dilated.

Something that only happens when your in love with that person.

Oh my god Derek is in love with me.

"Liz? What are you doing here?" He asked clearly relieved that I wasn't someone trying to kill him.

"I was just testing something." I stated and backed off.

"What were you testing?"

Your emotions.

"Nothing really." I said with the most innocent look I could muster.

"Okay..." He said slowly and suspicious. "What were your results?"

"Definitely... Interesting..." I breathed out. And something that will occupy my mind for the rest of the week.
