"Hello sweetie!" Barbara cooed walking into Christine's room as she saw she was awake again, no one had even hardly left the hospital. John was still lingering around as was Stevie. Carol Ann had basically dragged Mick to the hotel and everyone had tried to convince Stevie to go too, but she wouldn't so Lindsey stayed too, even though the early morning hours were now dawning. Barbara had decided she was best to go see Christine as she knew the new mother was awakening.
"Where are my babies?" Christine sniffled, looking dazed as she glanced at the woman she considered a second mother.
"They are in the NICU still but a doctor said we can see them soon, John has gone looking and Robin gave him her polaroid so he take pictures for you to see!" Barbara smiled and was happy to see Christine smile softly too as she sat down beside her.
"So they really are alive?" Christine gulped looking straight at Barbara with a little flash of hope showing in her face.
"Yes sweetheart! They are, you did amazing!" Barbara soothed, thinking of her as another daughter.
"Why cant I see them, cant you help me walk there to see them, I want to hold them!" Christine stammered getting upset again because she felt so alone without them inside of her, especially after not being near them.
"You cant go anywhere yet because you had a big ordeal too darling, how do you feel, you did give birth to twins only a few hours ago and had surgery!" Barbara soothed gently holding Christine's hand.
"I don't care about me!" Christine frowned.
"Well everyone does and those little babies need their Mummy to be healthy for them, so how do you feel?"
"I'm very sore and I'm worried about the babies!" She replied softly, knowing Barbara was right.
"Do you want me to tell the medical staff, I am sure you can have some more pain relief?"
"I don't want it, the babies need my milk, I already had nurses express some before, I hope it helps the babies so I don't want any drugs in it!" Christine sighed.
"Well try to rest for now, then John should have the pictures soon!"
She shrugged and stared blankly at the roof "Who knows if its them, I didn't even get to see them properly! I cant think Barb, my head is hazy, all I keep thinking about is my tiny little twins!" She then closed her eyes and Barbara saw she was still crying. She kissed her forehead and hugged her best she could without hurting her.
"Everything will be alright Chrissy!" Barbara promised.
"I hope you are right!" Christine said softly and exhaled as she moved slightly to get more comfortable and relieve some of the cramping and pain she was in, it blurred a lot because all she thought of was her babies and how they were.
"It will be alright!" Barbara soothed and hummed to her.
Meanwhile up the hall John had finally laid eyes on his babies as he made his way closer to where they were. They were so small and both in their own little incubators, seeing them bought tears to his eyes. They were so tiny and hooked up to various machines which broke his heart, he thought their birth would be easy and him and Christine would be holding and cooing them by thins time and he still feel guilty "Can I hold them?" He asked the nurse, crying more as he watched one move a little.
"Not yet, they are too fragile at the moment, but they seem like they will be alright, just a long hospital stay, but they are little fighters and the milk is helping!" She smiled warmly.
"My babies!" John stammered looking at the tiny little babies and just wanting to hold them and take them to Christine. They were parents, after all the years and he still felt a warmth within as he looked at them, he just hoped them and Christine would survive and be alright with no lasting damage to any of them, he was still amazed they were actually parents and he loved the babies so much already "Am I able to take pictures of them for my wife?"
"Yes, just don't startle them, they are very sensitive to noise and lights too!" The nurse explained and John just gazed lovingly at them, hoping they would be alright, he already loved them so much and had since he knew Christine had been carrying them, they were their little miracles, he just hoped they would continue fighting on so they survived.
