"They are so perfect!" Christine stammered still staring at the pictures that John was holding of their babies "Our little miracles!" She cried more, so happy to know they were alive and appearing to be alright.
"Perfect like you, you did such a wonderful job honey, carrying them and birthing them, I'm sorry I hurt you, I didn't mean to, I love you so much Chrissy!" John soothed and kissed the side of her face, he wanted to hold her but he didn't know where to touch her properly, she was hooked up to various machines and still looked very pale and fragile, he also knew she had surgery too and was afraid of causing her pain by touching her or holding her.
"I could have done better John, I wanted to have them naturally and when I was due, but they are here!" She sniffled.
"Twin births are very complicated honey and your body just couldn't carry them any longer, they were impatient to meet you both!" Barbara smiled, happy for the new parents and she hoped everything worked out for them.
"I still feel like I sent you into labour with my drunk bullshit, I'm so sorry Chris, but I love you so much and lying was hurting me. It hurt me to see you so happy when I was keeping that from you and I felt bad too because Lindsey married Stevie and I know Stevie is scared about the baby being, you know.." John sighed and held Christine's hand.
"None of it matters to me, being mad about it, that wont help our babies and they need us. I have to focus on expressing my milk and trying to heal so my body produces all the right things in the milk for them, they are the priority John!" Christine stated softly.
"You need rest too love, you did just have them, you are exhausted, I can tell, you are pale and you need to try and sleep!" John replied.
"I will recover, they need us, when can I see them?"
"I don't think you are able to watch yet sweetheart!" Barbara soothed.
"Can I go in a wheel chair?" Christine asked hastily.
"I think you should just rest for tonight, do you want some more pain relief?" Barbara said because she knew John didn't know what to say or do to help Christine, he knew nothing about hospitals much and didn't know how to help Christine but Barbara knew.
Christine shook her head and then smiled again as she looked at the pictures "I am worried about any drugs going into my milk, I'm really sore but its nothing compared to be in labour!" She softly chuckled.
"You still can laugh after how much pain and stress you have been in!" John smiled and finger combed her hair.
"We have two beautiful babies, I just am hoping everything goes alright!" Christine smiled, still uncertain.
"I had Teedee early and look at how she turned out!" Barbara smiled and squeezed Christine's hand.
"Really?" Christine asked.
"Yes, she was born at only thirty six weeks, everything is just more scary for you and John because its twin so they are naturally more fragile, but it will all be alright, your Mum is watching over, she wont let anything happen to her first grandchildren!" Barbara smiled reassuringly and Christine burst into tears. She was a mix of emotions, she was worried about her babies and she wished her Mum was there with her, she knew so much, it made Christine feel alone, but she was also so touched by Barbara's words, she reminded her of her own mother "Its alright, you will feel lots of emotions!" Barbara cooed and John felt helpless, still blaming himself.
"I just want to hold my babies, thank you for being like a Mum to me too, you would have been wonderful friends with my Mum!" Christine sniffled.
"Its alright darling!" She smiled and squeezed her hand gently.
"I wasn't allowed to even hold them yet honey, they are fragile but they are moving and the nurse caring for them was lovely too, it will all be ok, try to get some rest, I will stay and sleep here too if you want to give me another chance, I am still so sorry, I love you so much and just wanted to be honest, I know I picked the worst time to do it, but I hated lying, even all that time, please forgive me in time so we can finally have our perfect little family!" John begged holding her hand and looking into her teary eyes.
