We all packed up in silence as we got ready and I looked over at Beckett and paused. "What have you been doing the whole time you've been living out here?" I asked him, out of curiosity.
He continued packing a bag but look right at me with his icy blue eyes and smiled. "You see it. Besides the occasional monster hunting. Oh, and i have a PlayStation." He nodded at the last sentence as if he was proud and I laughed a little as I grabbed my helmet. Kai grabbed his as well and we both headed to the door waiting for Beckett.
In a moment my wrist vibrated and I knew it wasn't my gauntlet because that was on my left. This was on my right, so it had to be Memphis. I clicked it on through my helmet and heard static.
"Hey baby?" She called out, her voice cutting through the dark and slightly rough static.
"HEY." Called out Kai before I could answer. Obviously he was tapping into the line and was getting a kick of it. I looked over at his lizard tounge helmet and sighed.
"Hey baby." I said slowly waiting for her response. "Um. I miss you and I hope you got the note Honey. We're out here in the desert and oh boy do we have news. I promise we'll be home soon love."
It was quiet for a few seconds before she finally spoke up again and i was slightly worried. "Okay baby." She said.
I felt the heat rising to my face and a lump in my throat. "Um, baby?" I asked. "Are we okay?"
She took a breath and then I heard her let it out. "Yes. I'm just really worried about you love. I wish you would've told me ahead of time. I just couldn't bear the thought of losing you." She said.
I nodded, though I knew she couldn't see. "Well baby I'm out here, and I'm fine. We'll be back to the ship soon. I love you." I said.
She called out an "I love you" in response and i hung up now noticing Kai watching me as well as our newfound friend Beckett. He smiled before slipping on the gas mask and a hood. Then he pulled two coats off the table, one he was putting on and wearing. It had big swirly letters too, but it wasnt the Wasteland one. This one said Shinedown and Hollywood Undead. Bands I knew well, stitched into the back of this coat.
He then handed me the other long trench coat, the Wasteland one, and i slipped it on easy. It was surprisingly smooth on the inside. I slipped my pack on over it and checked in with both Kai and Beckett. I could hear his voice come out through his mask, but it was disoriented almost super deep, so that no one could tell what he actually sounded like.
We headed out the door from the base of the mountain and started through the desert again, and within an hour or two we were once again in the woods. I heard some static and then Kai's voice pique up.
"So....how exactly do we plan on introducing SubZero to everyone else?" He asked. We all busted out laughing at his not so subtle roast on Beckett and then Beckett replied back.
"I don't know, and I don't really care what you do Doctor. As long as you don't kill me and then bring me up again to make out with me." Ohhh. That was heavy.
"Damn." Kai said in defeat. I laughed at this actually enjoying Beckett as opposed to Cyrus. This made me wonder where he went and what happened to him, but I stopped and got my mind back on track.
"Ummm. I don't know, I mean. I guess we could just introduce him over drinks and have him freeze a Coke or something?" I asked laughing at the same time. I honestly had no clue what we were gonna do.
We eventually got to the ship, from which I could see lights blazing from the top windows and Kai and I looked at each other ripping our helmets off and dashing inside, Beckett following close behind. We bolted up in the elevator to the central control room with the large window overlooking the forest.
Zeke was with Memphis and Rayven fighting a flying bright red and orange person. Then I realized it wasn't just any person. This was Cyrus.
I ran forward and pulled Memphis away as Kai pulled Rayven and Zeke himself got thrown against a wall. I rushed over to him with Beckett and leaned down checking on him. He was unconscious after flying across the room, but he was still well alive. He was a big guy and strong too. He had it in him. Kai, Beckett and I lined up in a row looked right at Cyrus who was hovering in red orange flames as his hair did the same.
He looked at us and chuckled deeply turning it into a roar of maniacal laughter. "I told you. I TOLD you. You were petty and a fool and i would be back. You really think you deserve to lead them? More importantly did you actually think you were getting off of here? Please!" He said hissing each word. He stared at us lining us all up.
"Cyrus," I started.
"Ah ah ah..." He said. Not Cyrus. No. My name is Ember, and right now, Cyrus is my prisoner." I stared at him for a solid minute before all of our jaws dropped except for Beckett who apparently has been through this before."Well. Ember." I said. "I can't let you keep doing this, hurting my people, terrorizing my home and fighting us. You may be right. We may never get off of here and leave," I said taking a breath because I knew he was right.
"But I'll be damned if I let you come here and hurt my friends and more importantly my girlfriend. So I'm gonna ask you once to get the hell off of my ship."He looked at me and I could see his muscles tightening and I sighed knowing that just telling him to leave wouldn't work. I threw off my coat and Beckett did the same, his icy blue veins practically glowing. Kai's eyes went white and he went pale and I cracked my neck. I flicked my wrist and the blade slid out of the gauntlet as he approached, and we all lunged at him at once, starting the battle.
