After the day that we had we all decided to rest up and spent the rest of the day relaxing, me spending most, if not all, of my time with Memphis, playing around with my newfound shapeshifting powers.
I stuck to the green color and I decided to only use the full body suit as like a last resort. As we all sat down in the main control room it really made me realize how close we'd become and how much we trusted each other. Kai and Zeke were playing some video games in the back with Rayven and Memphis Taking sides, while Beckett came and sat down next to me. We were on the other side of the room looking out the massive window at the red and black stormy sky, with the holographic globe of the planet behind us. On the other side I heard Kai yell at Zeke about being a hack and I laughed a little with Beckett.
"So, how are you doing? How are you taking all of this?" He asked me, candidly. I looked at his stormy blue eyes as he brushed his black hair out of his face and sighed.
"Honestly? Better than I thought." I paused before continuing. "It's still difficult, and very frustrating. Being a leader, once again learning my powers as if they were new. It's a mess. But I'm handling it all, able to talk to everybody, and slowly but surely getting comfortable. It's not what I thought, this isn't how I figured I'd live my life. But it's fine." I said while looking out the window. All I could see was the lush jungle from here, a bit of water here and there, and the ominous, looming, black and blood red Clouds.
I looked over at Beckett who was also looking at the clouds and he smiled when he looked back at me. "You know I never thought I'd be here. I didnt think I'd make it this far either. But here we are. I almost don't want to go.." He said with a pause. "But we do have to. Not because we won't survive, as a matter of fact I'm sure we could. But because we need to actually complete this mission. We need to find out, if we can actually survive on Mars, and not just an overpopulated earth and space stations." He finished and looked at me before clapping his hand on my back and joining the others.
What he said was true. We've made it this far. We owed it to the others to actually finish the mission.
I stood up and walked over to the hatch and climbed down and strolled down the empty hallway alone. It was quiet and nice. As I made my way to the door I quietly opened it and walked around the beds. Only a few people were left and I was hoping they'd wake up soon.As if on cue, the alarm blared suddenly, the rapid buzzing startling me. I ran over to the controls and shut it off looking for the right bed.
Which one was it? I thought to myself.
As I searched them I landed on the bed and the number. 29. There were only like 30 to 40 people on board anyways. There was a slight knocking on the bed lid and I was astounded at how fast this person woke up. Then I laughed at what I heard next. "Open up already you piece of shit." As I practically fell to the floor laughing the top slid open to reveal a lanky yet muscular guy in about his mid twenties. Not much older than me, seeing as how I was now 21 and Memphis was 19.
He had wavy medium length green hair and a slight beard growing, though you could still tell he had sharp facial features such as jaw lines and cheek bones. He sighed and smiled when he looked at me.
"You must be the leader. Or captain. Or pappi. Daddy-o." He said raising an eyebrow. I paused in silence and fell to the ground doubled over in laughter As I smiled at him. I stood up and he shook my hand smiling. He bowed and sat up straight looking at me and grinned. "No. Well...yes and no. Around here since there not that many people that made it out," I said gesturing around. "We're more of a lazy sort of democracy. But since I'm the best one with I guess..leadership skills? I'm the appointed one yea. The names Rhent." I said laughing as I took a bow as well.
He smiled as he looked at me and gave me a fist bump. "I'm Atlas, as in space and planets. Nice to meet you." He said. "So...where everyone else?" I jerked my head up and grinned.
"Upstairs, playing videogames. Devil May Cry 3 or 4? If I'm not mistaken? It's really fun, come on you should meet them. I introduce you, you'll love them." I walked towards the door and he followed me through the hallway and into the kitchen. When he saw all the food, his jaw dropped and he practically fell to the floor.
"Hey, you know, you can eat some of that right? I know you're hungry and exhausted. You just woke up from a coma, believe me, been there, done that." He looked at me as if I was an alien, though technically I was a mutant.
"Really?" He asked, the question Actually serious. I smiled at how he was acting because I knew I was the same way and I now had a better feel on the role of leader.
"Yea, of course. Man, you're here and with us. As long as you don't back stab or betray us, you're family. What's ours is yours. Except for Memphis, she's mine. And Rayven is Kai's. You can have Halcyon if she ever returns though!" I said grinning.
He smiled shoveling food into his face into his mouth until he was full and told me he was ready. We smiled as we climbed up the hatch and into the Main Control Room and walked up behind everyone, with Kai and Beckett playing DMC. "Hey you should use Rebellion and the Stinger combo on that demon right there." Atlas said causing everyone to turn around.
"I'm uh, Atlas, by the way."
