JOLENE'S P.O.V

Joshua Cage was everything Jolene despised. He was basically Viktor 2.0.  At the time she had approved his friend request she was drunk. Looking back on her decision she wasn't sure what to make of it. For one she didn't think he would respond. Second, she thought he was a bot. Third, she didn't expect to be invited to some $120 "community retreat" paid and bought by said, scammer.

Despite his douche demeanor she felt instantly connected to him. He was the first person she texted when she woke up and the last person she texted before bed. Not that she had options but it seemed amazing to her that their paths crossed.

After work, she skipped BROWN'S. There was no need for it anymore since she now had all the attention she craved.  Instead, she went home, took a shower, grabbed a  bottle of white wine, rolled up a joint and proceeded to her balcony to text him until she the next day where she would do it all again.

Typing, Typing, Typing, Typing, Typing, Typing, Typing, Typing, Typing

Despite texting feverishly throughout the day she still felt so self-conscience.

How do you say to a stranger possibly catfishing you online that you may be falling in love with him?

Between the time they had started texting till now the retreat was less than a few days away. That was over three months ago.

"Excited for this weekend?" he messeged

"Yes very! what should I bring with me?"

"Just your beautiful self!" heart emojis and smilies to match.

Staring at herself in the mirror before bed she in awe of her own reflection. She looked less tired and puffy looking. Ever since she started talking to him and her routine has been a lot more consistent. Skipping BROWN'S she went home, stretched, showered even journaled occasionally.

Failing in Los Angles was heartbreaking not because she couldn't make it but because she couldn't manage to do just enough to make that place her home. In LA she had found herself a small slice of heaven. She had developed a routine that made her happy. Her co-workers were starting to feel like family. Exercising wasn't an ordeal. The weather was always tolerable. Before leaving she even contemplated opening a few dating apps to test the waters.

Sadly, one unexpected expense after another left her nearly homeless. She would reach out to her family but she cut them off long ago. The closer she was to them the more triggered she became. That's why she has blacked out as many nights as possible since coming home. Although she was not staying with them or talking to them she could feel their presence. The fear of bumping into anyone from her past disappeared thanks to ELEMENTAL DATA COLLECTION. Everything she needed was within walking distance.

What if it's awkward she thought, and he ends up triggering everything she hates about herself.

It won't be she told herself changing her pattern of thinking.

She tried to keep her expectations low. Falling asleep to his youtube videos she couldn't help but feel like they were meant to be side by side. In a few days, Joshua Cage will be live and in color.
