"what did you say?" the blonde soonyoung asked, checking to see if he'd understood the word of the latter correctly.

"i can't walk any longer," jihoon replied, his legs trembling so badly that he could hardly hold his footing.

at this rate, moving around would be difficult for them and soonyoung is well aware of this fact.

"if it's fine with you, let's hide here for a while," soonyoung suggested.

even though it was dark inside, jihoon agreed before the blonde led the smaller guy to the far corner and darkest section of the room to conceal themselves from the people outside.

"doctor lee, you really aren't here?" questioned the same ominous voice, echoing down the silent corridor.

"huh?!" a loud sound of something being kicked with such power followed the defeaning voice.

"well, i guess i'll simply shoot this woman in the head, hm," continued the man, "it's a great idea, isn't it?"

"please don't, please spare me," pleaded the said woman. "i have a family, i'm begging you,"

jihoon was ready to stand up when he almost forgot that if he stepped out and revealed his whereabouts, he'd surely be dead.

however,  thanks to soonyoung's who held him in place, the doctor recognized that he isn't exactly in a position where he can go and help someone else.

he would have gone outside and got himself killed in no time if it hadn't been for soonyoung.

"think before you do something, lee jihoon," the blonde warned him, using a tone that he'd never use to the younger before.

"let's say that you actually did show up in front of him, them what?" the blonde added, "would you be sure that he'd really keep his word and let that woman go?"

even in the dim light, his gaze were intense and sharp.

"of course he wouldn't, and you're well aware of that."

silence.

jihoon couldn't even respond to what the older said, making him feel completely useless.

"well, let's say he actually follows through with his promise to kill you without making it hard for you like he keeps on saying earlier ," the blonde said.

he continued. "then he would only be insane to let that woman go because her existence would give him trouble in the future."

"and you know why her presence would give him problems, aren't you?"

jihoon smiled bitterly and nodded.

"because, in essence, that woman is a witness," jihoon mumbled to himself, finally knowing how stupid he was that he almost did what jiwon had been telling him to do.

"i'm sorry," jihoon muttered, regretting even for a second that he thinks that way.

"but what should we do about her?" he asked, his brow furrowed. "she didn't deserve being in that situation."

soonyoung stated flatly, "we can't do anything for her right now."

huh?

he didn't seem concerned, as if the woman's possible death was no great issue.

jihoon responded, "what, but-"

"do you think we can be of any use to her given out current situation, then?"

jihoon was immediately silenced by soonyoung's question.

well, it's not like he's wrong. in fact, soonyoung did have a point.

the other group were armed, while soonyoung and jihoon were both empty handed and by the way, that's merely jihoon's guess.

"what more can we do for her?" he added, "we can't even help ourselves right now."

"jihoon, listen," soonyoung said, cupping both sides of his cheeks and gazing him down.

"every now and then, you have to be a little more selfish," the blonde explained.

"but-"

"in this kind of world," soonyoung paused, "giving a thing without getting something in return would result in nothing but wound and damage alone,"

when jihoon heard a female cry followed by a loud gunshot, he immediately closed his eyes.

sorry. sorry. sorry.

as if by instinct, soonyoung grabs the latter in a protective embrace in an attempt to muffle the sound and keep it from reaching the younger, despite knowing the fact that it'd be impossible to do so.

soonyoung knew that if he hadn't had the doctor with him at the moment, he wouldn't have been hiding in a dark corner right now but rather, he'd probably be exchanging bullets with that bastard jiwon.

however, he's currently with jihoon, and keeping the younger has always been a top priority for him.

"it's fine. it's going to be alright," soonyoung softly whispered to the younger as he ruffled his hair in an attempt to calm jihoon down.

as someone who had a long history of killing weak individuals who couldn't protect themselves at all like how jihoon is right now, soonyoung's actions were rather unexpected as he was never as gentle and considerate to anyone.

he had never been so gentle and loving to anyone in his entire life.

heck.

he'd never even given a thought to other people's lives nor valued their safety previously, however, that is clearly not the case when it comes to lee jihoon.

seriously, lee jihoon, what have you done to me? the blonde thought to himself.
