Midnight silently trudged beside Kyle who had a huge grin etched on his face much to Midnight's dismay.
The moment Kyle found out Grey left for The Philippines he came back, swooping in like some sort of knight in shining armor. Midnight loved Kyle but she wished he would just let her mourn in peace. And she also wished he'd stop rubbing in how Grey had "left" her.
"I told you that Grey was no good." He sermoned as they ate lunch. Midnight chose to ignore the comment and continued munching on her bagel.
"You can't expect people like him to stay. Too much ambition, too much dreams, too much. And, come on Night! It's not like he can accomplish any of those." Midnight glared at Kyle but he didn't seem to get the hint.
"It's not like he was serious about you or anything. He just wanted a good-"
"Kyle!" There was a moment of silence in the canteen.
Kyle looked up to see Midnight's teary eyes and in a flash, she left, carrying her bagel. Bringing the awkward silence with her. As soon as she left, the cafeteria resumed back to its noisy aura.
He sighed and picked up his things, following her.
He knew what he said was out of the line but he couldn't help it. He disliked that Filipino boy with an extreme passion.
But why?
Maybe it was the way Midnight was so utterly in love with him. Or maybe it was the way both gazed at each other like they held the universe. Or maybe it was the simple fact that Midnight was in love with him.
Why couldn't Midnight love him?
Why couldn't he get over Midnight?
He knew whatever he felt for Midnight was more than platonic. It was intense and raw yet she could never see it. She could never see how he would clash planets just to be with her.
She could never see how hard he wanted them to try.
How hard he worked to just be near her.
How hard he could love her.
All of those went to waste because Midnight was utterly in love with that Filipino boy.
That Filipino boy that left her.
That Filipino boy whose ambitions hurt Night.
That Filipino boy who did nothing but is Midnight's everything.
That Filipino boy that decided Night wasn't a good enough reason to stay.
Fuck that Filipino boy.
If Kyle had his way he wouldn't ever let Midnight get hurt. She was too precious to even endure that dark feeling of heartbreak. Yet here they are, him chasing over a girl that could never love him the way he wanted and she, chasing after a lose cause.
