ARAW-ARAW
- - -It was almost midnight.
Grey stood outside the balcony, the cold air breezing past him along with the faint smell of lechon, pastries and other Filipino delicacies wafting through him. The buzz of the small gathering made Grey smile a bit.
He looked up at the night sky and sighed. The stars glimmered with just enough shine to be seen. It was a whole moon tonight and the vibrant, bright mood reflected the light Grey so badly needed at the moment.
As he stared into the night sky the chatter and laughter grew fainter and Grey was left with his own somber thoughts.
He couldn't believe the year was over.
Grey didn't know whether to be happy or sad that a whole year had passed. So many things, so many memories. All he knew was he would cherish every moment he had with the people in his life.
Midnight.
He smiled faintly at the thought of Midnight. Her dark eyes crinkling and the small creases it made around her face along with her pretty small smile warmed his heart.
The memory of them laughing and driving up to the province, soaking up the fresh, cool air made him feel better.
He remembered all her words, her kindness and the love she gave him. Despite the whole year passing by as a blur, it was definitely Grey's favorite year.
It was the year he met Midnight.
The year he changed.
The year things changed.
It was crazy.
Crazily so, that Grey felt his smile drop at the thought of her being so far away. Far from his grasp, his reach, his arms. Far away from him made his soul itch and his heart hurt. The thought of her not ever coming back scared him.
It was so close to midnight.
Grey felt himself close his eyes and wish.
As the clock strike twelve, arms wrapped around him and a pretty wave of blue infused hair entered his view.
The prettiest smile he had ever seen in his life came.
"Happy new year Grey."
He chuckled and pulled her closer, both staring at the moon.
"Happy new year Night."
No words were exchanged after that. They held each other close and swayed to the soft music coming from the party. They swayed with the new year wind and they swayed for the stars.
He held her close and pushed his face in her hair. Sighing softly.
He held her close to him as possible and let her finally hear the loud thumping of his heart. He felt her giggle but she pulled him in for a kiss.
Grey had never felt this blissful. He knew it was a tough journey. A tough year. It was a tough life.
But somehow, this petite, obsidian-eyed beauty managed to ease his pain as he did with hers.
He learned to grow and to let things go. He learned to live in the moment and most importantly he learned how beautiful life can be if you chose it to be beautiful.
Her soft kisses made him focus on her and he smiled as her eyes stared at him with adoration and love. He would never get tired of those eyes.
He would never get tired of her.
"I love you so much baby."
She giggled and gave him a peck. Her body tight around his arms. Her arms wrapped around his neck and her eyes only focused on him.
"I know Grey. I love you."
He grinned and pulled her as close as they could get. As close as they were allowed. As close as the stars were tonight.
Grey never knew he wanted this. He wasn't sure if he truly wanted the great unknown but just the feel of midnight around his arms and her face stuff in his chest, this feeling was to die for. What they had was to die for.
He was so busy finding and searching for change and all along she was here.
Her pretty smiles, bright eyes and sweet spirit was here waiting for him to realize that she loved him as much as he loved her.
Grey was done waiting. He would live his life trying, changing and exploring as long as she was beside him holding his hand.
He would live his life the way he wanted to as long as she was here. He would always be grateful for moment's time when fate decided, no, when she decided to waltz into his life and change their fate.
Grey never had the courage to change fate but now he had.
With one last kiss, the couple held each other and as the wind died down, the walked into the party, hand-in-hand.
Midnight came.
