This whisper breaks us.
If love breaks us,
I don't want any part of it.
I don't want love.
I want you.- Y O U
A part of a piece I wrote in Grade 8______
The week felt blissful. To have Midnight waiting for him at home, their home once he got off work felt... Homey. Grey knew what it felt like to have a routine. But for some reason, routines with Midnight felt perfect. Even if it was a cycle Grey didn't mind it. In fact, he loved having the reassurance that Midnight would be home, her blue-infused her up tight in a messy bun, her eyes glimmering brightly and her smile made for him.
He loved it.
But a week flew by quickly and Grey knew he had 1 more week before Midnight returned back to America.
"What are you thinking about?" Arms wounded tightly around Grey causing him to stop chopping the vegetables and to smile.
"Nothing much." He murmured and continued with the ongoing tasks.
Midnight frowned softly but instead of commenting she placed her head on Grey's back, trying to memorize his feel. The way each muscle tensed then relaxed when he knew it was her. The way his scent wafted and made her feel safe. The way his arms would curve around her, as if they were trying to say, "don't go" and the way each time his gaze landed at her she felt as if she was the only one left on earth.
"What are you thinking about?" His gruff voice filled Midnight's mind causing her to release a dreamy sigh. Being around Grey made her feel as if this was all just a dream. A dream she was happy she wouldn't wake from.
"Nothing much. I just really enjoyed our week."
"I did too baby."
She loved it when he called her baby. Or princess or night or even Midnight. He said it with such gentleness and care it made Midnight feel giddy. She could imagine what her mom would say but she really didn't mind. The longer she spent with Grey the more the world blurred into oblivion.
"I just.... I don't really wanna go back to America. Not without you at least." She buried her face trying to get rid of the lingering sadness that was creeping up to her. A week left seemed too fast for her liking. If Midnigjt would choose between America or the Philippines she would honestly choose none.
She'd choose to stay in Grey's arms forever if she could.
He turned to face her and gave her those eyes. 'Those eyes' she fumed silently as she feel her sadness creep in. The way Grey's eyes stared so solemnly yet so understanding always made Midnight feel sad. Sad because she was allowed to be. Sad because someone was finally there to care.
"I don't wanna leave without you too Midnight. But I will always come back to you m'kay? Will make it work. I promise baby."
"Grey I'm not scared of us not working out. I'm scared that..."
"That?" Those dark eyes stared back at her causing her resolve to break.
"You'll move on" she whispered in a embarrassed tone.
His soft chuckling made midnight blush even harder. She knew he would laugh but rather than feeling the usual lingering embarrassment she got when others laughed her her, she got the familiar butterflies in her stomach with whatever Grey did.
Midnight knew it was unusual. She was never this dependent. She was never really the dreamer type but with Grey she felt as if all of those, all those nights of silent dreaming. All those secret wishes of a better and kinder future, all the prayers she murmured in the dead of night, everything she tried to avoid hoping for, were coming true. Slowly... but surely.
They were coming true.
Because of him.
Unknown to her, Grey was thinking the exact same thing.
____________
"I haven't been here in so long."
Grey glanced at Midnight whose eyes sparkled at the sight of trees and the endless mountains. Her small grin was etched on her face and his favorite obsidian hair shined in the sunlight. He squeezed her hand and grin back.
"I've always wanted to go up to Tagaytay and have a mini road trip. I never got to experience that since we've moved to the US so suddenly."
Tagaytay- a province nearby the city in the PhilippinesHer grin still didn't leave and she stared at him, her eyes still shining with the same mischief and amusement Grey knew he would never get tired of.
"I'm glad I've got to experience it with you first Grey."
Grey chose not to say anything but he knew she could see the small smile that made its way to his face.
As she leaned back Grey couldn't help but feel the slight sadness that made its way. He knew as blissful as they were feeling right now, Midnight would have to go back to the US and he would have to stay here. Maybe it was fate's way of saying they really weren't meant to be but Grey didn't care.
He'd find a way to make them end up together.
It wasn't like Midnight was an excuse to escape his reality. Midnight wasn't a fleeting moment of excitement that would become dull once accustomed to, she wasn't and never will be something or someone Grey got tired of. Deep down, he knew that no matter how many days, months, years they'd have together, would he ever get tired of his pretty brown-eyed baby. He loved her more than he could admit.
And he was okay with that.
After dazing, Grey noticed the slight pout she wore. He knew that she was thinking about it too. And maybe that's what made up Grey's mind.
No matter what happens, whether she would go back to the US or stay in the Philippines, They will end up together. With a picket fence, two dogs and a lifetime of happiness and laughter. They will last. Maybe forever. Hopefully forever.
With that in mind, Grey squeezed Midnight's hand once again and continued to drive.
