Chapter 2 - Decisions, Decisions

End of Chapter 1 -

Carol turns around. Is she going to say something?

"Y/N."

"Yes, Carol?"

"Come with me."

"Really?"

"Yes. Would you like to?"

"YES!"

Oh my god, Carol just asked me to join her on her adventures.

"Carol, what have I gotten myself into?"

"Probably infinite danger, and fun."

"Oh, the fun part sounds good, but the danger? Hmm... I don't know."

Carol just stared for a moment. What was she thinking?

"If you don't want to come and put your awesome powers to good use, then stay and carry on working for your grandma at the Nova Corps. I'm sure I can get by on my own. But, I would really love to have you on the journey with me." She replied, sadly.

"No! I want to come, honestly! But, I'm not 100% sure about putting my life on the line for others who will not appreciate it, you know? I know that sounds selfish..."

"I totally understand that, Y/N. But think of all the amazing things you'll do without expecting something in return. That's why I do what I do. Not for the gratitude, but for the thrill and excitement of the whole experience!" Carol answered, more enthusiastically than she probably meant it to be.

"Okay. I will try it!"

"Great! Shall we go?"

"I need to tell my grandma that I'm not going to be around for a while. Give me 5 minutes and I'll be back."

"Okay."

I can't believe I accepted. What will grandma think?  Will she let me go?

Nova Corps, again (god, will there be another location?)

You rushed into the Nova Corps, excited to tell your grandma the news you've just received from Carol, about joining her on her adventures across the galaxy.

"Hey grandma! Can I talk to you?" you ask Nova Prime.

"Of course Y/N! What can I do for you?"

"Well, you know we sent out the distress signal a few hours ago? Captain Marvel responded, and is standing outside the Corps right now. She asked me if I wanted to go with her to save the universe as like her... side-kick you could say?" 

I'm rambling, get to the point, Y/N! 

"I was wondering if you-" you were interrupted by your grandma finishing your sentence.

"If I would let you join her on her adventures?"

"How did you know? Probably from my rambling..."

"Yes dear, from your rambling. Anyway, why would I say no to you saving the universe outside of your office? Of course I'm concerned, but I would also love for you to get out and see the universe! Explore! Have fun!" Nova Prime responded, excited for you but also nervous.

"You really mean that, grandma?"

"Of course! As long as you're safe though, that's what really matters."

"Thank you, grandma!" you replied, hugging her.

Outside the Corps

Carol waits patiently outside the Nova Corps, anxiously awaiting your arrival. She kicks at several random pebbles on the path out of boredom. A small amount of people walk by, into the Corps, just as you exit.

"Carol, I've spoken to my grandma, she is fine with me taking a break from work to join you!"

"Amazing! Shall we get going now? I'm growing impatient." Carol replies, eager to begin.

"Yeah, sure! Let's quickly go to my house, so I can get some supplies. Can't save the universe all the time wearing the same clothes, or naked!" You laugh.

Your House, just outside the city

You step into your small house with Carol following you. You're surprised as your dog ran up to you as soon as you open the door, she never does this!

"Hi, (your pet name)! You missed me?" My god, I'm talking to my dog in front of her. Why are you like this Y/N? Why are you so weird?

Carol looks around confused, almost apprehensive. Why does she look so confused? 

 "Carol, are you okay? You look confused?" Shit, why did I say that? That was really blunt, and stupid of me.

"I'm fine. It's just... never mind." She wonders off, to investigate your living room.

"Okay, just know that I'm here for you. Whatever it takes. Make yourself at home."

"Thank you, and I will do."

You slowly move into your bedroom to get some clothes and basic supplies, like shampoo and socks. As you turn to get some t-shirts out of your closet, Carol stands in the door frame, and interrupts you; making you jump.

"So, this is what normal people live like day in, day out huh?"

"SHIT! You scared me, Carol! But yeah, pretty much! It's not too bad, apart from the bills!"

"I would love to have something like this. Before the Kree took me, I think I used to have a home, with a kitchen and closet. It's all still very clouded, but certain memories come through, sometimes, not all the time. It usually happens when I'm sleeping, or when someone says something that links into the memory." She stares at the floor, avoiding your gaze.

"Oh Carol, I'm sorry you never got to live your life fully on Terra." You replied, with sorrow.

"It's fine, Y/N. I'm just glad they didn't take anyone else I loved, like my best friend, Maria and her daughter, Monica."

You looked at her. You couldn't believe the amount of shit she has been through over the last decade. You try to look past the negatives, and force yourself to talk about the positives with her, to lighten the mood a little.

"You've come out of this horrible experience stronger than ever, Carol! Focus on that!"

"Y/N, how can I? I was abducted and used by the Kree for 6 years! They made me kill innocents! I can't not focus on that! It's still haunting me to this day! It's nearly been 10 years since I last worked for them, and I still can't think of anything else!"

"Carol. Please, see how much progress you have made since you broke free of the Kree. You have saved millions, possibly billions of lives! That's more than most people can say! You've taken your traumatic experience, and turned it into something beautiful. You've changed so many people's lives, including mine! And I've only known you for a few hours!"

"Thank you, Y/N. But, things like these don't just leave. They stick forever, you know?"

"I know, Carol. We can work on it. Together."

"Okay." Carol responds.

Just as the conversation finishes, you finish packing.

"Right, I've finished packing. You ready to go?" You ask Carol, to which she simply nods.

"Let's go".
