"Cynthia Black, you may go in now. Mr. Williams is waiting for you."

I smoothed down my skirt and opened the door to my future. This was extremely nerve wracking.

It had been seven years since we left the east and Joshua Dale behind. As predicted, he had believed we were kidnapped. We laid low for two years before the police gave up without any leads. As promised, Mom left him with nearly nothing to live on. Talk about the happiest day of my life.

We had to hide for a few months when we'd heard Joshua was deciding to look for us on his own. Mom decided that it would be best if we changed our names back already, so Josh wouldn't be able to match our faces with our old names. I had suggested that long ago.

Daniel and his family got into contact with us after a year or so later. They were only able to visit twice when we'd moved to the midwest. Joshua was still out looking for us. Danny said he was keeping close watch on Zach and Ryder, trying to figure out if they knew anything about it. On every news channel, Josh was still looking after nearly two years. When would he ever give up?

After a third year, Josh stopped searching. Mom and I were able to relax. We saw on the news that he had gotten married again and it seemed to me that he had never loved Mom. I didn't care anyway. She had someone better waiting for her return. Or so I thought.

Our third year away, I went to college in Nebraska for a music and business career. I didn't get to go for long before Joshua began searching again. What was he doing? He had to have someone telling him something. He couldn't just be popping out of nowhere searching for his, possibly dead, ex-wife and daughter.

We moved to North Dakota where I continued college. We hadn't been there for more than a year and a half when smaller gangs started targeting us. Mom decided that we had had enough of this torture and made an important announcement. We were going to go find Dad. We moved to Nevada and were able to buy a nice home. Mom found a stable job and I finally finished college.

After a year of living in Nevada, I thought it would be ideal to work at one of my father's companies. He wouldn't be expecting me and he'd want to know who this Cynthia Black was. Mom was ecstatic when I told her this. She said it was the perfect time to have him know his family was back. She even helped me apply as his personal assistant. I really hoped it was an easy job.

It wasn't easy getting a job there. When I had called up there, they wouldn't be hiring, because my father had indeed found someone else. They had promised to keep my application in mind as he tended to stick with a PA for a maximum of two months. There were a lot of applications to go through due to everyone thinking my dad was hot. It was weird. I finally did get the good news.

That's why I was here today. I had gotten a call from his headquarters stating that I would have an interview in a week. I didn't think any other girls would be there, so I wasn't worried about getting the position. Come on, I was his daughter. If I didn't get the job, who says I can ruin anything for my mother? Many of the women here were young, but I felt as if I was the only 23-year-old.

"Took you long enough to find me."

"I do hope you realize that you've not only put yourself in danger, but your mother also," he said.

"It was both of our ideas," I argued. "We haven't seen you in so long. Mom wanted to be the one down here today."

"Cynthia, I love both dearly, but I only sent your mother away to keep Joshua occupied. I didn't expect her to come back."

"Daddy, Mom never stopped loving you. She never even married Joshua for real. Or any of the other men we lived with to catch his attention."

Dad sat back in his chair and crossed his arms.
