This was stupid. Why was I believing that my brothers knew Daniel better than me? Maybe they did, but he's been my husband for at least four years. There's no way he would actually say he still loves me after this. If he does...I believe he's just like all the senile men here. I wouldn't even take me back. Daniel had to be to some extent clingy.
I knocked on the door. I didn't expect him to answer. Nor did I expect him to open the door with his shirt off. My eyes couldn't help themselves. I stared openly and wondered if he was going to say anything about it. Did this prove I loved him just a tiny bit? Or was it saying I was like every other woman who likes seeing a man's body?
"Are you just going to stare or tell me why you're here?" he snapped.
I deserved that.
"I wanted to apologize?" I offered.
"Seems like you don't know what you want." He slammed the door in my face.
I definitely deserved that. Sorry I was a butthole to you, Danny.
"Daniel, you do know I have the key to your heart and you have one to mine. I lied. About everything actually. Mom never taught me to hurt people who loved me. I was just angry that you didn't tell the truth. I was angry that I've been left in the dark on so many things. Who cares that you're five years older? Who cares that your uncle is a pathological liar? All I care about is you. I'm extremely sorry for using your sister against you..."
Don't cry. You cry and he'll actually think you mean it all. Ha. I was so good at acting. I should become an actress. Okay, you really need to stop it, Cynthia. It's not right to lead a man on. You should just turn around and pretend this never happened. He's never going to open the door again.
Oh, but he did. And he took his precious time. Was he really expecting me to say I was kidding? I was, but he didn't have to know that. I was the woman of his dreams. The mother of his child. There was no way he could just ignore me. I mean...he could, but he'd risk not being able to see his son again. Yes, I was willing to take it that far.
"Do you mean it?" he asked.
Well, dang. I didn't think he would ask that.
"Of course I mean it. What do you think me and my brothers were talking about out there?" I countered. "They made me realize that I was being stupid. I didn't know that I would cope with change and secrets like that. Both of them may not like you, but there's something about you that made them realize that you...that you are good for me."
"...Am I?"
"Yes. I couldn't possibly disagree. You've done a lot for me and I was only throwing out those lies to make you hate me. To make you leave me for also lying to you for all those years. Did it work?"
"No. It only made me want to strive to make you actually love me," he confessed. "You mentioning my sister like that was disrespectful. I couldn't possibly forgive you for doing that, but I truly love you, Cynthia."
Way to go, Cynthia. You just made your man love you even more. Now, it's time to make him believe you love him back.
"Are you going to let me in?" I asked.
"Are you going to let me in?" Daniel smirked.
Bastard.
"Danny, you know that I love you. There's possibly no way I could lie to you again."
"Hm. I don't know about that."
"Hey, I didn't come up here for nothing. I wanted to see you."
"...Alright. No touching anything. I touched a book and it fell to pieces."
