Upon entering the tenth floor, I walked into a chest. Daniel only grunted and laughed when he saw the face I was making. This was embarrassing. I looked up to see Zachary smirking and staring at me expectantly. Great. Now I had two men here to ruin my day further. I swear if anyone asks about the boys, I will freak!
"Wha-what are you doing here?" I sputtered.
"...Was I supposed to be somewhere else?" he asked.
"Yes--No--I mean..." I sighed and rubbed the bridge of my nose. "...I was just asking."
"Ah, Tia's worried about me. I feel so loved right now."
"I am so not worrying about you. I'm worried about your presence."
"My presence?"
Daniel chuckled. "She's worried that her co-workers will start asking her about her relationships," he said. "I told her she was being crazy. Everyone loves us."
"That's the problem. I don't want everyone to love you."
"Hey, that's mean."
I shook my head and tried walking around Zach. He stepped back in my way and frowned. I knew what was coming. A long speech about how I shouldn't worry about what people say. Look here, mister, whether you know it or not, there are people here who will ruin my image. I might get fired from here and not be able to work in the state of Nevada ever again. How horrible would that be?!
"Cynthia, who cares that some people talk about us? I'm just happy I get to be near you." He smiled and nodded at Daniel. "We both don't care, because you...aren't hurt physically by it. When they start hitting you for being with two men, that's when I'll start killing."
I half smiled and nodded. That was true. As long as they didn't start hitting me. I'd hit 'em right back. Nothing will stop me from defending my men. Nothing.
"Anyway, where are you headed?" he questioned.
"Dad's office. He wanted to speak with me about something," I said. "Hopefully it's nothing bad. I have two meetings I plan to show up for today."
"Office Special?"
"You know it."
"I'll go with you, Zach." Daniel handed me back my folders. "There is something we need to finish on the way there. Bernadeth wants something from the store, too."
"Dinner?" Zach asked in anticipation. "I can already smell it."
"Not dinner. You'll find out when we get there."
I smiled at the two boys and left them to their little argument.
"How many separate orders?" Zach called after me.
"Two," I said. "Could you have them put in more fruit tarts? Everyone loves them."
"Of course, babe."
I continued walking until I got to dad's office. His door was already open and he was typing away on his computer. I recognized his blue haired secretary immediately.
"I'll make sure they get to the team immediately. Anything else you want me to send in?"
"Yeah. Make sure Harrison gets everything for the charity. I think there might be something he can do about why no one dares to show up for more than ten minutes."
"Got it."
"Did you get Cynthia?"
"Yes, sir. She should be--"
"I'm here," I interrupted and entered the office. "I was hoping you were alone, though."
"Nicky was just leaving."
