Early the next morning, I woke up to the sound of whispering. I didn't want to interrupt the conversation, so I stayed still and kept my eyes closed. It sounded like they were fawning over Lucio. I knew exactly who was in my room now.
"Lui è così carino." He's so cute.
"Sembra esattamente anche lei." Looks exactly like her, too.
"...Pensi che sia sposata?" ...Do you think she's married?
There was a slight pause.
"Sì, no. Non sembra il tipo di donna da legare così facilmente." Yeah, no. She doesn't seem like the type of woman to be tied down so easily.
I really wanted to laugh. What did they know about me? I rolled over, stretched, and yawned loudly.
"Penso che l'abbia svegliata." I think you woke her up.
"Are you awake now, Tia?"
I opened my eyes and blinked the brightness of the sun away. Two tall male figures appeared before me. I sat up and it took me a hot minute to recognize who they really were.
"Aless...Alex?" I stared at them open mouthed and stunned. "How--When--"
"È sbalordita," Alessandre said. She's stunned.
"Siamo davvero andati via da così tanto tempo?" Alexandre asked. Have we really been gone that long?
I flew from the bed and hugged Alexandre. He stumbled back a little and eventually wrapped his arms around me. I had missed him so much. Both of them really. It was like knowing you have family elsewhere, but not able to visit whenever you want. I then hugged Alessandre who stood aside with a smirk on his face.
They really had grown from the last time I'd actually seen them. Aless had really gone and gotten highlights he'd been speaking about for years. Alexandre looked way older than his brother even though they were twins and he was younger. I could see that they both hadn't given up on the idea of dressing alike. It was common among people in America, so I could see where they picked up on it.
"How have you been, Cynthia?" Alexandre asked as I pulled away from his brother.
"I've been better," I said. "Gosh, where have you guys been all my life?"
"Alex and I had to look after something on the Mediterranean," Alessandre said. "Had to set stuff straight with a couple people and fix some...things."
"Sounds quite nice."
"It wasn't that nice. We didn't mean to leave unannounced."
"It's fine. I'm fine. No need to worry so much, Alex."
"How's Dad?" Aless asked.
"...Haha," I chuckled awkwardly. "I don't really know..."
"What do you mean?"
"You see what had happened was...I sort of ran away a couple of months ago and was kidnapped..."
"Oh, my--"
"Due volte." Twice.
The boys looked at each other and nodded. What were they thinking about? It was scaring me. Alexandre looked at me and sighed.
"Tipico del nonno, immagino," he said. Typical of grandfather, I guess.
"Probabilmente aveva pianificato tutto, sì?" Aless muttered. He probably had this all planned out, yeah? "What did you mean by twice?"
"...Grandpa sent two men to take me here. I don't remember exactly how I got here, but I do know that when I came to, Joshua was planning to assault me...again," I explained.
