"Afan, is it possible that Cynthia asked you to come here?"
Alexandre walked up to his sister's door and crossed his arms at the king. Why was he here in the first place?
"Yes," Afan responded curtly. "Why do you need to know?"
"Because, you just left her with someone she hates the most in her life." Alex huffed and let his arms fall to his side.
"Who? Daniel?"
"Exactly. He's been known to play around with females and leave them to cry their hearts out for weeks."
Afan shook his head and looked down the hall at all the maids and male staff walking around aimlessly. He should ask one of them to clean his room while he was out.
"How do you know?" he questioned.
"He's done it to some of the maids. If you listen every once in a while, you'll hear some of them talking about it. They know he's here and they're going to make his life a living Hell," Alex muttered and shifted mindlessly.
"...Let me guess, Daniel had his name changed and that's why I don't care that he's with Cynthia?"
"Exactly. Does Woo Youngmin ring a bell?"
Afan thought for a moment and stayed quiet as a group of maids came by. They looked at the boys in question and wondered what they were doing. Afan shook his head. He couldn't believe Youngmin would come back after all those years and think he can do whatever he pleases to the future heir.
"Unfortunately. What's he doing back?" he asked.
"He's Cynthia's husband. I want you to warn her to stay away from him. He's more dangerous than she realizes."
"I can't tell her that. We literally just met last night."
"Sure you did. Just tell her Aless and I need to speak with her," Alexandre ordered. "She is definitely not safe here. She doesn't need to give her child to him for anything. If he threatens her, she needs to tell someone immediately."
"Got it. If you see Zachary anywhere, tell him we need to talk," Afan requested and smiled.
"Of course...your majesty."
He smiled and shook his head at this. Alexandre walked off and his brother came around the corner and nearly bumped into him. Alex laughed and stepped out of his brother's way. Aless scowled and stomped past him. His face showed pure anger. Afan didn't dare ask what was up or he'd risk being punched in the face. He would get compensation out of it, so it wouldn't be that bad.
"Alessandre," he growled. "Whatever you plan on doing, you had better let me help."
"I'm leaving next Sunday," Aless snapped. "I'll come get you. Or you find me."

I was exhausted and starving when I woke up. I realized Afan and I had slept the day away after my argument with Daniel. The argument was still fresh in my mind. What was his problem? He was from a dangerous family and never told me? Never trusted me not to leave him? Or was he a pathological liar like Joshua--er, Josiah? It made perfect sense to me right now.
"Cynthia," Afan started. "I took the liberty of having dinner sent to the room. I can tell that you're hungry."
I turned to Afan and smiled. He was the perfect man for me. Earlier was amazing with him. We didn't do anything, but I really wished we had. We talked about him. We talked about me. If someone would have told me I would be comfortable with a king watching me while I breastfed my baby, I would have laughed in their face and called them crazy. Since it happened, I think I'm the crazy one.
His jawline wasn't even close to how I imagined seeing it up close. Some women love their men with strong jawlines, but I don't. Afan's face looked as if it had been carefully crafted by God. From afar, he looked mean spirited and arrogant, but up close...I really want to thank the Lord for making this manly baby. His eyes were the softest brown. Almost like stepping on sand.
Don't get me started on his lips. It's amazing how a man can have the most perfect lips. Usually the guy told the girl she had perfect lips, but it was the opposite in my case. When he smiled, they made way for his pearly white teeth. They weren't the most perfectly aligned teeth I'd ever seen, but they were there. Just revealing how he felt about this situation.
I brushed his dirty blonde hair out of his eyes. He grabbed my fingers and kissed them one by one. Lord. I thought. Why didn't you let me marry this man instead? He put my hand over his chest and stared at me. I felt his heartbeat. So strong and steady. I knew what he was trying to say, but, Afan, we only met just last night. This man was something. I had never once believed in love at first sight, but Afan was making me have second thoughts.
"Will you eat something before I go back to my room?" he asked softly. I nodded. "It's on the nightstand behind you."
I didn't want to turn around. I'd miss something. Miss what? My conscience snapped. Your stomach is threatening to eat your brain. Fair point. I pulled my hand away and sat up. It was a miracle that Lucio was still sleeping. The smell of food stopped that thought and I turned hungrily to the nightstand.
"Your brothers stopped by," Afan said as I stuffed my face. "They wanted to speak to you tomorrow afternoon about something. I wish I could go with you, but duty calls in the city. And I still have to visit Alessandra's grave."
"It's totally fine," I assured him. "My brothers don't scare me."
He chuckled and sat up also. It was quiet while I ate. No one muttered a word. Lucio's soft snores made me smile. I really just wanted to hold him and talk to him about his stupid father. He hadn't seen him for five months and some weeks. I didn't know how he would react to seeing his father for the first time in forever.
"I'm going to go now," he announced. "I'll be back in the morning to say goodbye. If you're asleep, I'm going to leave a note."
"Just give me a kiss. I'm a light sleeper, so I'll wake up as soon as you come in," I said.
Afan laughed and stood up. I turned to look at him. He was already a step away from the door. How did this man walk so fast?
"Afan?"
"Yes?"
"...Do you--do you think I can explain everything to Daniel?"
"Or course you will. Just don't do it the wrong way."
"I don't want to hurt him. I know he gets attached too easily."
"It'll be fine. He's tougher than he looks. Just don't mention his sister."
I nodded and let him leave. Don't mention his sister, huh? Well...I have something for you, Daniel. You will not like it one bit.
