It had been a few days since Jade had met up with the fugitives. They had to evade Milan for precautions, and Wanda pleaded for Jade to tag along for a little while longer. Jade agreed; knowing how much it hurt the first and second times, Jade didn't stick around due to her promises to others.
Clint had contacted Natasha through Morse Code, informing the agent that the team was more than welcome to stay at his place for a few days since there was really no other place to go. Steve and Natasha both were reluctant since Clint was on house arrest, and Clint's parole officer could drop by to make sure he stayed on house arrest. The archer informed his teammates that his parole officer wouldn't be checking in until a week later.
Jade looked up at the white farmhouse in the middle of green hills. Acres and acres of open property, no one else around. Just a private little farm. The group of five walked up the dirt pathway leading to the front porch. Wanda held Jade's hand tightly, her protectiveness emerging. She knew that Clint had a son, and she wouldn't take any chances for him to get anywhere close to Jade.
Natasha knocked on the door before flashing Jade a small smile. "His family is great," she reassured since Jade hadn't met Clint's family at all.
Wanda gently moved Jade's ombré hair that was draped over her left shoulder to expose her neck. "You're gonna love Lila. She's so sweet."
The front door opened, revealing Laura Barton, holding colouring books in her hand. "Hey, come on in." She stepped aside, letting the group through.
Jade's eyes roamed around the cozy home. Toys scattered around the living room, some leading into the kitchen.
"I'm sorry this was a last-minute thing," Natasha apologised.
Laura waved her off. "Clint told me everything, and it's okay. Besides, Wanda is just like another daughter, and the kids will love the company."
Wanda flashed her a smile. "Thanks for letting us stay here."
"No problem, sweetie." She noticed the new presence in the room, unfamiliar with the girl. She paused, a polite smile on her face. "And I see that we have a new visitor."
Jade nodded, holding out her hand in greeting. "Hello, I'm Jade."
Laura gladly accepted her greeting, shaking her hand in a firm grip. She glanced at Natasha for more detail in the introduction.
Natasha was quick to add on. "She's Tony's daughter."
Clint came around the corner, leaning up against the wall as his arms were folded across his chest. "Nat, you didn't mention that a traitor was a part of your group."
"Clint, she's with me," Wanda said through gritted teeth. "It's okay."
Clint's eyes fell on their interlocked hands, and he tried to fight a smile that wanted to emerge since he was glad that Wanda had found happiness. He huffed, defeatedly. "Fine, but if I find out that she snitched my off-the-records home to Secretary Ross, I'll be going after her."
"I helped break you out of jail," Jade mumbled under her breath.
Laura pointed up the stairs, turning to Wanda. "You and Jade can stay in the bedroom you stayed in the last time you were here. Steve and Sam can stay in the other guest room." Laura turned to Natasha. "You already know where you sleep."
Natasha smiled. "Yeah."
Wanda guided Jade to the guest room, but the Sokovian did notice Natasha's signature smirk. She mentally rolled her eyes but couldn't help the feel of nervousness rush through her body. Wanda could recall that there was only one queen size bed in that room.
