I grew up on the sly in the gutters and streets of London. Just a girl on the fly getting good at getting by in London. I've bartered for a blanket and stolen for some bread. My uncle taught me how to use my head. It was just me and him for a long time. Because of Remus's condition, he could never hold a job for long. That resulted in us not making rent and being kicked out. we had to sleep in a car for a week when I was seven. We never let the Diggory's or the Weasley's find out how bad off we were. Amos and Molly would go ballistic if they found out we were eating garbage scraps and begging on the streets for money. Trying to buy stuff for me when I had to go to Hogwarts was a joke. I used a lot of mum's and Aunt Lily's old stuff. When we got to Hogwarts, Remus was able to save up more since he didn't have to worry about food for me. He ate with Amos or Molly every night. When I got home from Hogwarts for the summer, he surprised me with the dingiest, dirtiest apartment I had ever seen.
To me, it was beautiful.
It was my first home in almost ten years. I was sick of staying somewhere for a month before getting kicked out. It had been our lives for years and now finally, we had stability. That day when I finally unpacked for the first time in years, I made a decision. My children would never go through what I went through. They would never have to sleep on the streets, beg for food. I made sure of it. I set aside money every time I got some, just to make sure that my children wouldn't live the life I have. Now, here I am... five months pregnant. I already knew my child wouldn't have the life I did. With that money and Cedric's Tri-Wizard champion money, we have more than enough to make sure that we and our children will live comfortably. Then, with dad giving us his old house, we have extra money since we don't have to worry about buying a house or apartment or having rent every month. How's that for luck?
"I wanna know." I declared, looking at my husband over my stomach. He pinched his lips together, shaking his head as he ran his thumb over my knuckles. "Oh, come on! then we can decorate the bedroom and get the stuff we need for him or her."
"And you can decide the name." Daphne pointed out. She and Mum decided to accompany me and my husband to our five month appointment. Our doctor says that he could tell us the gender if we'd like. I'd like. Cedric... not so much.
"All of those are good points but it would be fun for it to be a surprise, wouldn't it?"
"No!" I snapped. Mum and Daphne laughed. "Ced, I have given up some of my favorite foods, my body is going through a lot right now and my hormones are all out of wack. My sanity is hanging on my a thread and that thread is knowing if I'm gonna have a daughter or a son." he held my gaze for a firm moment, never letting it waver. Soon, he sighed, shaking his head.
"Babe, I'm sorry but I want to wait." I growled but he stayed firm on his decision. Even Satan himself would've shivered my glare. My husband was stuck on his decision and I knew there was no changing his mind. Now we had to wait until February first to find out... woohoo.
We got lunch with mum before heading back to the castle. We made it right in time for fourth hour. I was Mcgonagall's aid for her fifth years. When I walked in, everyone was snickering loudly, with the exception of Hermione. When Ron noticed me, he jumped up excitedly, facing me.
"What?" I mumbled.
"Apparently, Fred and George just pulled a prank on Umbridge so Gryffindor lost ten points." My head shot up, staring at the entire class as they giggled. Mcgonagall was rolling her eyes.
"Wait, if they lost ten points, then that means..." Harry started nodding.
"We're at 69!" I started laughing maniacally, causing Mcgonagall to let out an exasperated sigh. It took her a good ten minutes to calm us down but even then we were silently snickering.
