The sun rose signalling the start of a new week of school. I stretched my stiff fingers after yet another night of endless playing. It had taken the rest of the weekend playing them and sorting them out but none seemed to hit the mark as I remembered.
Getting dressed into my school uniform before leaving, I only paused slightly by her door. A half smile creeping up my lips. Ziva would be out for awhile still, I could use this time to get certain things out of the way. On top of everything Luie was still planning on taking Lorie out hunting tonight. It's a three person job, but she's been very good lately, so Nicolae decided to try with two. Nicolaes way of punishing me. Perfect...
I quickly finished my morning routine and left for school. Decided to skip the oh so lovely Myths and Legends class. Standing in a corner, I silently savored the confused Osborne girl who was waiting until the good Professor threatened to kick her out unless she took her seat. She gave me a knowing glare before shutting the door. After the hallways cleared I made my silent way to the library. Since I was skipping this morning class I would have plenty of time to sort out what I needed to in quiet peace.
I slid my backpack onto my usual chair before heading for the bookshelves of the library. It took awhile to find the specific books that I wanted, but it was worth it. Franz Liszt and Ferdinand Freiligrath were easy find, but Ludwig Uhland had been oddly checked out.
When I got back to my seat, a frown formed on my face. My backpack had been opened and discarded by a big oaf that was now residing himself in my chair. My personal black book firmly planted in his hands. He flipped through the pages with what I would only call irritated confusion. His brows almost crossed in a furrowed uni-brow.
"what you want Loan?"
My voice threateningly even, as I tried not to glare daggers at him. Nicolaes warning fresh in my memory, I was to limit my interaction with the Huxley boy.
Loan barely gave me a second glance.
"That is my book..."
Loan - "Like you pretend to actually read this? It's all gibberish!"
I scoffed shoving one of my found books in his face and snapped my own closed. Effectively taking it out of his hands. Loan blinked stunned before recovering enough to face me.
"Ever heard of other languages? might want to broaden your horizon. The school has an excellent French program if your interested."
Loan - "That did not look like French!"
"You are right. That one is in German, a bit tougher. Good luck!"
I answered nonchalantly as I headed off.
Loan - "Ziva is a nice girl..."
Loan voice called out behind me, taunting, making me instantly stop. Just hearing Zivas name come out of his mouth made me want to drain him. Instead, I kept my eyes on my black book, reminding me, to keep myself calm. I had to remain passive.
Loan - "A bit on the fragile side, don't you think?"
I raised an eyebrow in response. If there was one thing Loan was good at, it was trying to mess with the Bartholys. Normally I wouldn't pay a guy like this so much attention. He was human. A neanderthal with a pulse at best. But something in that statement sent my blood boiling. I threw caution to the wind, and dove into his memories. A string of internal curses and profanities went through my mind. Messing with us was one thing. I could handle it, I am a big boy. I know better than to give into my animalistic urges. But he was openly threatening Ziva by dragging her into his little perverted game. He would trying to manipulate her! That was a whole other ball game. And one I couldn't just let stand, especially from a little piss ant like him.
"Your point being?"
The irritation clearly sounding in my voice. Almost eager Loan got up. He puffed out his chest and strode over trying to tower me. I leaned back and looked up at him. As if Intimidation would ever really work on me.
Loan - "I would hate to see her...hurt."
I stared blankly. Was he actually threatening me? No of course nor. My lack of response quickly seemed to frustrate Loan even more at the situation between us intensified. A small smile curled his lips.
Loan - "Don't worry I won't send her your way when I'm done with her."
Every muscle in my body was aching to beat him up. Just to make him shut up before he said something even more remotely stupid. Instead he practically sneered in my face.
Loan -"After all every girl wants to ride the Huxley! Hell, she might be the future Mrs Huxley! So you'd better stay out of it, you highbrow. Otherwise you'll be dealing with me!"
I couldn't even blink. I combed my hair with my fingers slightly tugging at their strands. No way I'd drain him now! I was going to rip him apart! But I couldn't do that because of well... reasons. taking a desperate breath I felt a calmness wash over me.
"You're absurd! If you think I'm impressed, you're wrong."
It was absurd. The more I thought the more I realized it. Loan wasn't who I was mad at anyway, not really. Loan leans over pulling my shirt, trying to gain my attention. Something other than his usual frustrated anger suddenly glazed over his eyes.
Loan - "Do you think I don't know what you are? We'll hunt you all down and we'll destroy you one by one."
His statement was a warning call, a message delivered from an enemy. There was no hesitation as I dove into his most recent active memories all before he would returned to normal. Loan leaned in to finish off his taunt, and all but a few seconds had passed, none the wiser.
Loan - "And if you think a girl like Ziva could be interested in someone like you, you're even more stupid than I thought!"
His words stung with truth adding to my already troubled discovery. I hadn't been prepared for this. Never mind the threat that had just been delivered. It was his faded memories, I couldn't stomach past. Memories that his mind now thought of how the last part of the evenings event went down. Nicolae hadn't mentioned this, only that he gave him a little nodge due to his drunken state. But Load the idiot had twisted the fade into reversing our actual roles: Making Loan save her from me. Then I felt a tingling going up my spine, as i realized the other implication. Ziva. Due to the potion her memories would be linked to his temporarily. Was that why the rest of the weekend had been different? So easy. Was that the memory of me that she now had?
"I know that I don't deserve her .. "
I stopped myself from mouthing my inner turmoil and pushed him away, I was done with this charade. If she feared me fine, I would stay out of her sight. I must have pushed harder than intended because the idiot went flying, not that I cared, anymore. I stared at him sprawled on the floor dazed like that night at the bar.
"I don't want to fight you, don't try your luck."
I turn around, ready to leave when everything grinned to a complete halt. Time stood still as two undeniable distinct blue eyes where staring back at me. But that should be Impossible! Yet all my senses confirmed that there she stood, clear as day, next to Sarah Osborn.
They were looking straight at us. Zivas wide eyes were surveying the scene with disbelief. How long had she been there? How much had she witnessed? How much had she... heard? I couldn't be sure, but this wasn't good. I needed to sort my next move before things would get even more out of hand. I straight lined it to the door, holding my breath and even my gaze as I passed her.
