Chapter 9: Meaning of a Knight

Third Person's P.O.V
You landed safely on the ground and looked outside to see Meliodas walking closer to the holy knight was backed up into a wall. You ran closer and stood beside Meliodas who was shocked you had followed him.
"I'm not leaving you behind!" You shouted firmly and immediately noticed the change of his eyes. He looked sad and lost in thought.
"Meliodas..." You thought to yourself as you soon hear Elizabeth and Hawk calling out to you both.
"I'm so glad you two are safe!" Elizabeth shouted cheerfully as she smiled brightly at you both.
"Tch, I'm surprised that Y/n followed after that idiot!" Hawk rolled his eyes as you sweatdropped at his expression. Moments later the knight vanished before your eyes.
"Where did he-?" You blurted out and soon saw a horse suddenly running your direction.
"So that's where he went~" Meliodas hummed as the holy knight revealed himself again and escaped riding the horse with such speed.
"That coward!" Hawk shouted with his eyes narrowed. You began to think about the doctor you all left and started running in his direction.
"Lady Y/n wait!" Elizabeth shouted as she started to chase after you.
"Bastate prison isn't that way y'know!?" Hawk shouted but you ignored his words amd concentrated on the doctor, praying he was still alive. You all soon reached his location and you held him in your arms.
"Doctor Dayna! Please hold on...!" You shouted with tears slowly dripping down your cheeks. He was a father and you didn't want his daughter to go through the same pain you did.
"Why are you...crying? I tried...to kill the boy..." Dayna muttered softly as he looked into your e/c orbs that were filled with tears.
"Doctor you were just trying to save your daughter...!" Elizabeth shouted with tears falling from her eyes as well. Meliodas was quiet as he watched you cry for someone who shouldn't mean anything but felt remorse for him anyway. He didn't deserve this..
"My sweet Sennet...I only wanted...to protect her...please save..." Dayna trailed off as his body felt limp in your arms. You began to cry even more and gently used your fingers to close his eyes.
"This is all my fault..." You muttered softly while clenching your fist in frustration. A life was lost and you blamed yourself for it.
"What are you talking about? It was Golgius who killed him." Meliodas stated calmly while he watched you break down in front of not only him but Elizabeth and Hawk.
"If we hadn't come to this town in the first place, Doctor Dayna wouldn't be lying here dead and his daughter would have never been taken!" You shouted angrily while you slowly layed the doctors body on the ground.
"Y/n..." Hawk muttered softly as you stood up from the ground to stand before Meliodas getting angrier by each second that passed.
"Not to mention...if I had never joined you guys...Meliodas wouldn't be hurt causing all of this to happen! And...I wouldn't be hurt..." You cried even more and soon felt a warm hand caress your cheek and wiped away some of your tears despite more were flowing.
"I get that you wanna cry right now but I also know how much you want to save Liones just like Elizabeth does. Is a tear or two all it's gonna take to make you give up on that?" Meliodas' words shook your very core and you widened your eyes from his wisdom.
"Meliodas..." You muttered lowly as he leaned his face closer to yours and layed his forehead against your own.
"Even if you die somewhere along the way, I'll make sure to keep the promise I made to you." Meliodas spoke firmly with determination in his emerald orbs that made a blush appear on your cheeks. Elizabeth smiled at them both and knew how they each wanted to do all they can to protect the other.
"You would do that for me...?" Your eyes widened as you spoke softly. You saw a side of Meliodas you never saw before and it made your heart race. Meliodas pulled away from you and looked away with sad eyes. He knew the pain of losing someone important to him..
~Flashback~
The red head Y/n L/n who was a knight of Danafor leaned on a stone pillar that was all scratched up from the battle that occured moments ago. "N/n..." Meliodas muttered softly as she looked towards him with a weak smile. Rain poured down on the destroyed kingdom with barely any survivors.
"You can forget who you are...but never forget the principles you stand by...Meliodas." N/n muttered before passing away right before his eyes. Dead but never forgotten.
~Flashback Ends~
"We all die someday...but, as long as someone keeps a person's wishes alive they won't die. And once you decided to follow them...no matter how much you bleed, and even if your tears run dry...you stick to it! That's what a knight stands for." Meliodas spoke firmly before walking away with Hawk and Elizabeth running after him. You were still in shock by what occured...he looked very sad.
