The months flew by before my eyes. New greenies filled the Glade. All of them boys. The days blurred together as we worked and ate. Gally and I spent as much time together as we could. He had started staying with me in my room more. I was starting to grow old of the same thing every day. I felt severely boxed in. The only girl in the Glade. Doing the same job every day. Even the food started to feel repetitive even though it was still good. It was all becoming too much. It's hard for me to see the possibility of us ever getting out of here.

Today, we are meant to get a new box of supplies and a new greenie. It was a slow day as it usually was on the box day. Most of us sat around chatting and laughing. A few boys tended to their jobs to pass the time. I sat with Gally, Newt, and Frypan. The boys were talking while I was more in my head. I stayed quiet most of the time. Unable to join conversations because I'd already felt like I'd had it before.

"You alright?" Gally whispered in my ear.

I just nodded and gave him a tight lipped smile. He grabbed my hand intertwining our fingers together. He squeezed lightly. I just moved to lay my head on his shoulder keeping my eyes out on the Glade.

The sudden loud blaring alarm meant to alert us of the box's arrival sounded. We all jumped up and ran for the cage. I had a little pep back in my step only because I wanted to see the new greenie. That was the only thing new that ever happened in the Glade. It was the only thing I could use to keep myself going.

We reached the box. Gally throwing the doors open then jumping inside as he always did. I peaked over the edge with the others. Another boy but this one looked younger than everyone else. Maybe 12 years old at the most. The boy was cowering in the corner crying. Gally stepped closer but quickly turned away slapping his hand to his nose. A look of disgust evident on his face.

Gally took a deep breath then grabbed the boy. He hoisted him up for Newt and Winston to grab. We all smelt what Gally had immediately. It smelt like the boy had klunked his pants. Newt and Winston took him over to the pit to calm down and wait on Alby. I wrinkled my nose trying to ignore the horrible smell. That poor kid he's scared to death.

I went to work helping the others empty the supplies from the box. It always took us most of the day to get done. Once we were finished with the supplies we had a bonfire to get ready for. I noticed the greenie was out of the pit and walking with Alby. It looked like they had given him a different pair of pants. Probably a good idea.

"You wanna help with the bonfire?" Gally asked wrapping his arm around my waist.

"Sure" I smiled at him.

Mostly all the builders gathered the large wood setting it together like we always did. Once the wood was together we added the dry leaves and other items to make the fire start faster. Newt was helping set the small logs around in a half circle for us to sit on. Everything was ready quickly only a few minutes before it'd be dark.

Alby sent the greenie back to Newt and Newt quickly waved me over. I was standing next to the two boys a moment later.

"Greenie, this is Emi. She's the only girl in the Glade in case you didn't notice. She's also my best friend and Gally's girlfriend." He smiled widely as he watched me.

I extended my hand to the young boy. He took it with a smile.

"Hi greenie it's a pleasure to meet you."

The boy was beyond adorable. His smile was pure, gentle, and innocent. I had a feeling we'd all be protecting this kid from anything and everything.

"You ready for the bonfire?" I asked taking a seat then patting the spot next to me.

He nodded with his smile still in place as he sat beside me. We started chatting right away. I told him about when I first got to the Glade. How Gally and I tried to kill each other several times before deciding we actually liked each other. I told him about my fears. I wanted to make sure he knew he wasn't alone. He wasn't the only one who was scared. Most of us were.

Alby came out and quickly had the guys light up the bonfire. Newt and I introduced the greenie to some of the Gladers. After the introductions I had the greenie sit with me to watch the festivities. We sat together on one of the logs as Gally gathered the group for his fights.

"This is one of my favorite things to watch." I laughed.

"What is it?" He asked watching the other boys curiously.

"I was never told what it was called but it's some fighting thing Gally always does at the bonfire. I've kicked his ass a few times." I smiled down at the boy.

"You must really like him." He smiled glancing between myself and Gally.

Gally glanced up making eye contact with me. He smiled and winked at me causing a slight heat to creep into my cheeks.

"No, I don't like him. I love him." I stated quietly.

The greenie and I watched the fights and laughed each time one of the boys ate dirt. It was nice having him around. He was kind of like a little brother. After the comments and eyes I've got from almost all the gladers it was nice to have someone around that never did that. I had a feeling this new greenie and I would be good friends.

It only took about three days for the greenie to remember his name. We all cheered for him happy to have a name to call him by. Chuck. It suited him.
