Keep Holding On: A JuliElmo Fan Fiction

Three days later, they were at Elmo’s condo. Julie was pacing the floor in her orange coat while Elmo was sitting on the couch watching TV, waiting for the time to pass. “Julie, pwede ba umupo ka? You’re making me dizzy with all your walking around.”

“I can’t help it, Moe. Natatakot ako. Hindi ba talaga tayo magpapaalam kina mommy?”

“They would never let us leave. Remember what happened when we told them our plan?”

“Yes.”

“Hindi ba, hindi nila tayo pinayagan? What do you think they’ll do if they found out that we were getting ready to leave?”

“Pipigilan nila tayo.”

            Julie sat on the couch beside him and looked like she was almost going to cry. Elmo sighed and put an arm around her shoulders and pulled her close so that he could hug her. “Baby Japs naman… Huwag kang umiyak. We’re going to be alright. If you want, we’ll call them up and tell them our plan right before we leave. Okay?” She smiled and nodded. She kissed his cheek. “Thank you… The best ka talaga.” She said as she hugged him back. “Talaga.” He seconded. “Baby, kailangan na natin umalis. Doon na natin tawagan sila Tita.” They both got up and carried their bags downstairs where an airport shuttle picked them up.

            They got to the airport after half an hour. They sat in the waiting area for their flight to be announced. “Natatakot ka pa rin ba?” Elmo asked after noticing that Julie was fiddling with her fingers. “Slight.” She answered. “Baby Japs, if you don’t want to go through with this, we can go home right now. Hindi ako magagalit.”

“Hindi. We’re going to do this. I won’t leave you. I’m going to keep holding on.”

            Elmo smiled and gave her a big hug. Just then, a reporter walked towards them and started interviewing them. “Julie, Elmo, saan ba kayo pupunta? Wala ba kayong ibang kasama?” the lady asked as she waited attentively for their answers. “Um… Magbabakasyon kami. Wala po kaming ibang kasama.” Elmo answered rhetorically.

“Bakit kayo lang dalawa? Magtatanan kayo?” The reporter asked jokingly.

“Parang ganun na nga.” Elmo answered jokingly as well.

“Kailan kayo babalik?”

“In a few months pa po.”

“Totoo ba na kayo na? Kaya kayo magbabakasyon?” She interrogated.

“Hindi po. Best friends lang po kami. Alam ko po na mahirap paniwalaan, pero ‘yun yung totoo.” Elmo said as he smiled at Julie who just nodding at his answers.

“Ganun ba? Hindi kaya buntis si Julie kaya aalis kayo ng bansa?”

            Julie and Elmo laughed at her question and Elmo shook his head. “Hindi po ako buntis. Talagang magbabakasyon lang ako kasama ang best friend ko na si Elmo.” Julie answered. They hear their flight being called and they bid the reporter goodbye as they board the plane. Julie takes out her phone and dials her mom’s number.

“Julie! Nakita ko kayo sa news flash! Saan ka ba?!?!”

“Ma, nasa airplane na po kami ni Moe. Huwag kang mag alala, Ma.. Okay lang po kami.”

“Anak… Ba’t hindi ka nagpaalam?”

“Hindi naman kayo papayag eh. Napapagod na ako, Ma. Si Elmo napapagod na din. Hindi na namin kaya.”

“Papano yung work mo dito?”

“Inasikaso na namin ang lahat. Ma, aalis na ang plane. I love you, Mama. Paki sabi na rin kay Papa. Bye.”

            Julie closed her phone before her mom could ask her to stay. Elmo was looking at her intently when he noticed a small tear forming in her eye. Elmo immediately pulled her closer and hugged her. “Baby Japs, don’t cry. The worst is over. When we get to Asheville, everything’s gonna be fine. I’ll take care of everything.” Julie nodded and the airplane takes off.
