“Dito kaya, Julie?” Elmo suggested, pointing at a restaurant.
“Ayoko. Mahal siguro diyan. Hanap nalang tayo ng iba…”
“Asus… Practical naman ng baby ko… Ang dami mo na kayang pera.”
“Kahit na, Elmo. Dapat mag save tayo. Matagal pa kaya tayo dito…”
“Speaking of matagal, umm…”
“Ba’t napatigil ka? Ano?”
“I was thinking that maybe we should just stay here a bit longer than six months.”
“What do you mean?”
“Let’s just take the year off.”
“A year!? Elmo, nababaliw ka na ba!? Hindi ko kaya ang isang taon.”
“Calm down, baby… Okay. Okay. Six months na…”
Julie sighed of relief. She looked at Elmo who was just smiling and acting like he didn’t say anything insane. The cool breeze swept past them. Julie could feel her fingers trembling from the coldness of the air. She immediately hooked her arm with Elmo’s and leaned her head on his shoulder. Elmo didn’t mind. He knew that she was freezing. Julie would easily get sick in such weather. Elmo kept her close until they arrived at a local diner.
“Bart’s Diner. This place looks good. What do you think?”
“Yeah, dito nalang tayo mag dinner.”
Hey entered the establishment and took a seat in one of the booths at the corner of the building. A short haired woman greeted them and handed them menus.
“Hey, dolls. What’ll it be?” The waitress asked.
“Um… Julie, ikaw na mauna…”
“I’ll have a Caesar Salad. Ikaw, Moe?”
“Diet ka pa rin? Try mo nalang kaya yung Eggplant Parmesan Sandwich.” Elmo suggested.
“Sige, I’d like to add the Eggplant Parmesan.” Julie added. The waitress nodded and jotted it down.”And you, sir?” She asked Elmo.
“I’ll grab the Baked Mac and Cheese and a Pineapple Coffee Cake for dessert.”
“How about you, ma’am? Anything for dessert?”
“No, thank you.”
“Drinks?”
“Water. No ice. She’ll have the same.” Elmo answered.
The waitress smiled and left them with their orders. Elmo was sitting across from her looking around the diner when he came across a sign.
HELP WANTED
For
WAITRESS and BUSBOY
“Julie! Check it out. I think I just found us jobs.”
“Huh? Waitress and busboy? Are you sure, Elmo?”
“Bakit naman hindi?”
“Marunong ka ba?”
“Julie Anne, are you underestimating the power of Super Elmo!?”
“Shh! Tumahimik ka nga… Hindi naman… It’s just that never pa kita nakita na nagliligpit o ano…”
Elmo stood up and sat beside Julie. He leaned close to her ear and whispered, “I’ll show you.” He stood up and sat back in his place. Julie smirked at what he said and just then their food arrived. They both thanked the waitress and they started eating. When they were done, Elmo asked the waitress for their bill and they paid it. But before leaving, they inquired about the job offers.
