The next morning I was awoken by the sun shining through the gaps in my ragged curtains. The faded grey fabric barely keeping any light at bay, causing every thread of the curtain to have a white outline surrounding it. I certainly wasn't in any sort of mood to be annoyed at being woken up early, however. I was too excited to let anything spoil my day, and even though my alarm wasn't due to go off for another hour, I sprung out of my bed like it was on fire.
The next 60 minutes seemed to merge together, almost as if I was on autopilot, and before I knew it, I was completely showered, dressed, and ready. I sat on my couch, glancing at the time on my phone, my stomach doing back flips when I realized Jimmy should be here at any time.
I had dressed myself in moderately comfortable clothing. I didn't want to look too smart, otherwise I would've looked very out of place alongside Jimmy's friends. I had pulled on my skin tight black jeans, not so much for the comfort, but to be perfectly honest, they made my ass look great. All the girls I had seen in Jimmy's videos were extremely pretty, and I wanted to at least look on par with them.
I kept glancing at the time on my phone, the minutes going by so slowly that I could've sworn the whole concept of time had broken. I drummed my fingers against my bag, carrying my laptop and my tablet, and not much else. My phone beeped at me, signalling that I'd gotten a text. I rushed to unlock my phone, and in doing so, ended up taking longer than I normally would have. I still hadn't gotten used to the face ID on this phone, and almost always unlocked it in the same way as my old phone. "I'm outside :) x" Jimmy had sent.
I jumped to my feet, swinging my bag over my shoulders. I had to stop myself from running to the door, as I most likely would have slipped on either the doormat in my apartment, or the stairs down the hall. No matter how hard I tried, I still had a spring in my step, the excitement coursing through my veins. Most people would get the same rush from doing things such as skydiving, or going on a big roller coaster. It's not something you would normally get from the first day of a new job, but this wasn't just a new job.
I pulled the door to the building open so quickly, that it slammed against the wall, and bounced back to hit me in the back. Almost pushing me over, and down the few steps leading up to the door. That wouldn't have been a good look in front of Jimmy, but he most definitely saw me have to catch my step, as I caught him chuckling at me when I looked at him. He was standing outside his car, on the passenger side, and as I got closer, he opened the door for me. "You look happy." He said to me as I reached the car. I nodded my head and smiled up at him. "Of course I am, it's a big day." He chuckled, smiling right back at me. He gestured into the car, and I stepped into the big comfy car, that I've been rather jealous of since the first time I saw it. He made sure my bag and everything was inside, and he shut the door so gently that I was surprised it properly closed. He was well and truly a gentleman.
He walked around the car, tripping slightly on a bit of road that was sticking up. He flashed me a moderately embarrassed smile through the windscreen, acknowledging that he had tripped, and walked the rest of the way much more carefully. The second he opened the drivers side door, I said "Christ, you're almost as clumsy as I am". He looked at me, a sarcastic, unimpressed expression on his face as he joked back, "Not a chance, I've seen you almost fall over twice since I've met you, and actually fall over once." I couldn't argue with that. I was definitely a very clumsy person, and renting an apartment with uneven floorboards was something I would've avoided if I'd had a choice. "Not true!" I laughed, "I was pushed the first time". Jimmy started the engine, driving very slowly down the pothole ridden road. "Yeah, fair point, Tareq still feels absolutely awful about that. I told him you were going to get your own back at some point, so we'll keep him on edge for a little while. Don't be offended if he's not overly eager to say hi to you." He chuckled, his smile still giving me little butterflies in my stomach, no matter how many times I saw it. "God damn it Jimmy, I don't want him to be scared of me!" I laughed at him, "It was an accident, I can't get revenge over that." I told him, noticing that we were now out of my awful neighborhood, the trees creating an orange and red canopy over the road we were on.
"Don't worry about revenge, we just like taking the piss out of him." He looked over at me and smiled, the sun shining against his eyes, making them look as though they were twinkling. I smiled back, just as his attention was snapped away by the car swerving slightly. "Eyes on the road, Jimmy!" Amusement laced in my words. I could have sworn I saw him blush a little bit, but the trees kept blocking the rays from the sun, making it harder to see.
We continued with general chit chat for the rest of the journey. My stomach was tied in knots, and I couldn't tell if it was nerves or excitement. Most likely both, as I was so extremely nervous to meet everyone. I had seen what seemed like hours of all of Jimmy's friends on YouTube, but there was still a chance that there would be people there, that I hadn't seen before. As well as the fact that I might make a bad first impression, and they may not like me.
I was getting myself worked up, and it was only when Jimmy broke my train of thought, that I finally snapped out of it. "We're here." He said, pulling into a car park of a huge warehouse. There were multiple cars parked up, and a few people dotted around the doors of the building. I smiled, my anxiety disappearing, and my nerves settling. How did I get so lucky?
