Lost Souls (Archie Andrews)

Chapter Twenty Two- Senior Year

After Mr Andrews' funeral, the rest of summer vacation passed in a surreal haze.

Betty, Veronica, Jughead and Cally spent as much time as they could with Archie, having dinner at Pops every night.

And every day you could tell that he was getting better and better.

Not saying he wasn't still heartbroken, the entire town was, but Archie's a fighter.

And by the last day of summer vacation, while the football field was being mowed for the new season, and the school floors were being buffed to a shine and banners for the first dance of the year were being hung... Archie was doing what he does best.

Cally walked into El Royale where her boyfriend was practicing boxing with Mad Dog.

She noticed they were chatting about school.

"I don't know, Red. After what I've lived through, I don't think going back to textbooks and cafeteria politics is really my scene" Mad Dog said to Archie.

"Yeah, it's not mine either. But getting that diploma is what my dad wanted, so I'm doing it for him.." Archie noticed Cally had walked in, "and for her, of course"

Cally smiled at his comment. She ducked under the ropes and kissed Archie, despite him being all sweaty from boxing.

"This is not the same Archie from juvie, you've melted him, Cally" Mad Dog joked.

"What can I say?" Cally replied, smugly.

"Come on, Mad Dog, we can do it together. You could even try out for the bulldogs" Archie said.

"Fine" He agreed.

Cally left Archie to carry on boxing with Mad Dog and headed to Charles' office for an update on her mom. Betty was already there when she got there.

"So mom missed another check-in with you?" Betty asked Charles.

"What?!" Cally asked, putting her bag down and sitting opposite Charles.

"Yes, but like I said, don't panic. This isn't the first time she's been late with reports" Charles replied.

"Well, what if that means she's been found out?"

"Listen, until she contacts us, you girls just need to focus on being high school students. I'll reach out if anything changes"

Later that night, the gang headed over to Veronica's place, which was luckily empty due to her parents being in prison.

Cally and Archie got there last, Where Betty, Jughead, Veronica and Reggie were waiting.

"Guys, I really can't imagine a better way to spend our last night of summer vacation" Betty said, as Veronica poured everyone a glass of champagne.

"Isn't it crazy? In just nine months, life as we know it will be over. No more high school" Veronica said, sitting down on Reggie's lap.

"No more Blue and Gold" Betty added.

"No more heart to hearts at the lockers, no more gossiping in the student lounge" Cally said, with a sad tone to her voice.

"Oh, C. Don't be sad!" Veronica smiled.

"I'm sorry guys, it's just I only got to experience high school with you guys this past year, and it feels like this year is gonna go by so fast, there's not enough time" Cally said, squeezing Archie's hand.
