Chapter Twenty Three- Investigation

After school, Betty and Cally picked up some takeout for them and Charles whilst they were working on the Farm case.

When they arrived at the office Charles wasn't there.

"Charles?" Betty called out.

Cally wondered over to Charles' desk, where she noticed a file had been left open.

"B, look"

They both read the file and it was text messages from Kevin to Fangs.

"Wait.. what?!" Betty asked.

"Is this what you do when I'm not around? You read classified information?" Charles asked from behind the girls.

"What were you gonna tell us that you had Kevin under surveillance?" asked Cally.

None of the girls trusted Charles quite yet but Cally was even more wary of him than Betty was. Betty still didn't trust Charles fully because of the Chic thing, but Cally didn't want the same thing happening to her family, she already felt guilty that she wasn't there when the Chic thing was going down, so if she could stop it from happening again, she would.

"I wasn't. From the get-go, I suspected that Kevin hadn't fully cut ties with the Farm. I started monitoring his phone activity and it turns out he's been texting with Fangs Fogarty" Charles told the girls.

Betty sighed, "I was hoping that Kevin was done with the Farm. It seemed like he was done"

"This might be a blessing in disguise. We could use their relationship to our advantage. In his text, Kevin keeps pushing to meet in person, but Fangs has been holding him off, saying he can't risk it unless he has something useful to offer in return. So what if we accidentally let slip.."

"Some fake intel about our investigation in front of Kevin?" Betty suggested.

Betty and Charles were always on the same page with the investigating stuff, Cally isn't quite as fast as they are.

"Exactly. Something that'll lure Fangs out of hiding. The first step is to develop Kevin as an asset. Think you can do that?" Charles asked Betty.

"One hundred percent"

Later, Cally was driving Betty back home because Betty had to go and tour Stonewall Prep with Jughead.

"Betty, are you really going to go ahead with Charles' plan? Using Kevin like that?" Cally asked.

"It's not using him.." Betty argued.

"B, it is! It's cruel and it's unfair. All Kevin wants is to be your friend so you're going to fake it just for the sake of the investigation?"

"Cally, do you want to find out where mom and Polly is?" Betty asked.

"Of course I do! But I'm not okay with using our friends like that!" Cally said, stopping the car as they pulled up in front of the Jones house.

"Well it's the only way!" Betty raised her voice.

"Fine. Well I want no part in it. Lock the car please" Cally threw her keys down and got out of the car, storming into the house.

Cheryl was having a back to school party at Thistlehouse that night so Cally got into her outfit and headed over to Archie's house and they made their way to the party together.

"You seem stressed" Archie said, watching his girlfriend staring out of the window as he drove.

"I had a fight with Betty"
