The journey to Cyllage City went as smooth as it could have. We passed through South Lumiose once more, stopping briefly so that my pokemon and I could revel in the big city life for a short while. After that, we passed through Camphrier Town where we were greeted with remarkable hospitality from the locals.

That provided us another opportunity to settle down and train for a little while in preparation for the upcoming gym battle. From research, I knew that Grant, the gym leader, specialised in using rock type pokemon so with Treecko's type advantage I wanted to focus on building up his offensive prowess.

We had just made our way through the Reflection Cave and emerged in Cyllage City. However, the gym had been closed due to a sudden absence from the gym leader so that disrupted the day's plans.

I was surprised however when my eyes caught something, or rather someone, familiar. Two people that I vaguely recognised as Calem's friends were stood chatting to each other just past the city's main entrance.

As if on cue, the smaller boy turned to me with the larger boy following his gaze.

"Hey aren't you Calem's friend?"

More like neighbour, but now wasn't the time for semantics. I nodded in response as the two made their way over to greet me. I recognised the boys as Trevor and Tierno when I got a closer look.

"What are you guys doing in Cyllage City?"

Tierno spoke up to reply, "Well the Professor gave us a task to research all the pokemon around Kalos and we figured Cyllage would be a good place to start seeing as it's near a cave and on the coast."

Trevor continued, "We could ask you the same question. What are you doing here?"

My lips pulled into a small smile as I thought over my response to the question. "I'm here to challenge the gym leader, but he's not here right now so that's out of the window."

The boys looked at each other quickly before returning their attention to me.

"That means you must have gotten your first badge from the Santalune gym!"

I nodded, confirming their theory.

"Wow! You got your first badge really quickly. You look like a gifted trainer if I've ever seen one. How about a battle? Tierno and I haven't had a good chance to properly test out our partner pokemon yet."

Once again, I thought over the decision. Upon hearing the gym was closed for the day, I had set my mind on going to the shore to see what kind of pokemon were there. However, I wasn't one to turn away from the thrill of a battle so I gladly accepted.

"How about we battle on the beach? We would have loads of space there!"

There you had it. Both of my wishes for the day were coming true, in some way.

"Charmander, I choose you!"

"Let's show them our style Squirtle!"

Both trainers sent out their respective pokemon. The orange lizard pokemon let out a flamethrower attack to show off his power while the blue turtle pokemon remained cool, unfazed by anything I could potentially send out.

Quickly, I decided on who to send out in response, wanting the best start to the battle.

"Treecko, Growlithe, I'm counting on you!"
