Rising From the Ashes

The battle between Calem and I was far from over. In fact, I could sense that the real battle was just getting started. From an outsider's perspective, you would assume that Calem was fighting an uphill battle as he was down to his final two pokemon where I still had four. However, I can assure you that this trainer could never be counted out.

"Don't count us out just yet Aaron. Charizard, I choose you!"

From his pokeball, the orange lizard pokemon emerged. Even though Sceptile was already mega evolved, Charizard showed no signs of backing down from the challenge. In the end, I decided that I should keep the forest pokemon on the field.

"Start off with fire blast!"

"Counter with focus blast."

A blazing inferno was met with a huge sphere of focused energy, as both attacks collided in the middle of the field. Neither move came out on top, which told me that Charizard was already this strong without mega evolving. Granted, Sceptile had battled before, but that meant nothing should be taken away from the fire lizard's strength.

"Get in close with steel wing Charizard!"

"Keep them away with dragon pulse."

As his wings began to glow white, the opponent took to the skies in an instant. At the last second, Sceptile was able to dodge the attack, however the returning dragon pulse was easily evaded. Unfortunately, the fire pokemon continued his assault, landing a powerful crunch attack causing the dragon pokemon to stumble, nearly falling to the ground.

Charizard didn't hold back, using the opening to his advantage. In a flash, he charged forward, his claws extended and glowing green as he swung at the stunned grass pokemon. At first, Sceptile was able to nimbly dodge the first swing but the fire pokemon brought his right claw crashing down overhead, forcing the forest pokemon onto the floor.

"Follow up with crunch Charizard!"

"Use dragon pulse to keep them away."

At this point, I realised that Sceptile needed to keep his distance as he was unable to compete with his opponent's close range abilities. As Charizard flew forward, he was blindsided by a powerful blast of draconic energy, causing him to miss his attack.

Finally able to breathe, Sceptile was able to catch his breathe, the toll from the previous battle with Chesnaught was now catching up.

"It's time to show Aaron our real power, Charizard, mega evolve!"

Instantly, a bright orange light engulfed the lizard pokemon. He grew in size, his wings becoming jagged instead of smooth. Charizard's claws grew in size as horns protruded from his shoulders. As the light faded, the lizard pokemon had now changed colour from orange to black, the flames emerging from his mouth now blue.

"Use fire blast!"

"Counter with dragon pulse!"

The cobalt blue fire storm was met with the blast of draconic energy. Both pokemon were now giving it their all, not letting up. However, Charizard's newfound strength enabled him to eventually overpower his opponent. Unable to evade in time, Sceptile was struck by the blaze, wrapped in flames.

At that moment, the grass pokemon reverted to his original form, collapsing to the ground in defeat. I thanked him for how well he battled before returning him to his pokeball.

"What do you think of this Aaron? There's no way the two of us can lose now!"

I smiled at the display of confidence from my opponent. But, I was quick to correct him, stating that I would be the one emerging victorious from the battle.
