Chapter 3

Light snores comes from Joseph, who's sound asleep. For a guy that was complaining about the sand itching him, he sure does look comfortable.

A yawn escapes my mouth, my mouth is dry more than usual, most likely from the lack of water yesterday. I take a look up at the coconut tree, the coconuts that are too high taunts my dry mouth. I need Joseph's help if we plan on getting any sustenance today. I can't exactly climb ten-foot trees all that well.

I don't want to wake up the dark prince but it seems that I have too. The more I stare at him, the more he reminds me of a Disney Prince, there's not a single imperfection on his face. No ache, long lashes, and a strong jawline with a bit of stubble that he didn't have yesterday. He's quite attractive when he's just sleeping and not being an angry bastard.

I crawl towards him, hovering him. I lightly tap him, "Joseph," I whisper. He stirs a bit, "wake up, I need your help." Joseph's arms extend grabbing me.

"Veronica," he mutters in my ear. Veronica? Who's Veronica.

I squirm in his grasp. "You idiot! Let me go!" I shout under him. Joseph's eyes open and he pushes me away from him.

"What are you doing?" he says as he stretches.

"I didn't do anything! You grabbed me and whispered Veronica in my ear." I see his eyes widen, and then he merely gets up. "So whose Veronica?" I ask, my voice full of curiosity.

"My dog," he answers flatly causing me to frown. His dog! "So, why did you wake me?" he says pinching the bridge of his nose.

I let out a sigh, God! I hate this man. I point to the tall coconut tree we slept under. "I wanted to get some coconuts for breakfast tonight."

"Oh," he gets on one knee. I look down at him, and he rolls his eyes. "Get on! You woke me up for it, now get on." I take a step on his shoulder, he grunts lowly. I'm not that heavy.

He grabs my leg to balance me and I'm lifted in the air in a second. "Please don't let me fall this time."

I reach for the coconuts and take four this time, dropping them one by one. Last night wasn't nearly enough. Joseph lets me down, and I crack them open like before.

We need to find a better means of substance, we can't survive on just coconut water and shavings. We need fresh water and protein, maybe fish? Can he even fish? I surely can't.

Joseph and I eat in silence. Every time, I would even try to start a conversation, Joseph would merely ignore me or would give me meager answers. After we eat Joseph and I gather all our things, we continue our voyage around the island. During the voyage, we find nothing but white sand, with no sign of civilization.

"Joseph," I say behind him. He ignores me, most likely because he already knows what I'm going to say.

He knows that if we truly weren't alone, we would have seen some type of hotel or something by now. We would have seen a person, or a sign maybe even heard something. But nothing, the only thing we've seen is sand, and water with the vast forest in the middle that we dare not go into.

"Joseph," I repeat.

"I know," he mutters. "I fucking know! There's no one on this goddamn island!" Joseph kicks the sand. "Dammit!" he yells.

I stare at the ground as yells. What are we going to do? What can we do? "Joseph... calm down."

"Why?"

"Because... yelling isn't going to solve our problems. It's just going to exert energy that we don't have." Joseph begins to walk into the woods. "Where are you going?"

"I'm getting wood, we need to make a sign. That seems to be the only way someone could find us. If I'm right, we were peddling for let's say maybe ten hours, and the boat was already an hour out. That means civilization is about six hours out. Which isn't that far, meaning if we put this sign up, a plane is guaranteed to see us."

I smile, he's right. We're not too far away someone must fly over us eventually. But the problem is when... I follow Joseph in the woods, my tight dress makes it hard for me to move.

I can't do anything like this. I take the button down off and pull my dress off. "Alice wh-" I ignore him.

"Calm down, I can't exactly walk around this island with this tight dress on." I put on the button down and button it almost too the top. I keep the top three buttons unbuttoned. I look up at Joseph whose bright red. "What?" I question.

"Nothing," he mutters picking up sticks.

Joseph has sorta the same idea as me because he's rolled up his pants, and took off his shoes to unveil his hard calves. He looks like he runs.

Joseph and I manage to collect a lot of sticks, some for the fire tonight and some for the message.

We make it big enough that someone from a plane could see it if they merely look down. My stomach grumbles, and I look to Joseph. "I'm going to go look for some food in the woods."

"Fine, I'm going to go fishing."

"Fishing?" I question with my eyebrow raised. "What do you know about fishing?"

"Enough, there's fish in the sea and I'm going to stab them with a spear. We can't survive on Coconuts alone. Now while I go fish, you look for water or fruits or something other than fucking coconuts."

"Aye, aye captain," I say full of sarcasm. I watch Joseph begin to pick up a stick and he breaks it in half. I throw up a middle finger at the angry asshole.

I start my search in the forest. I hope there aren't any crazy animals here. My bare feet touched the ground, the mud feels sorta good on my feet. I stare up at tropical trees cover the sky. The forest is so lush, I've never seen anything like this. The way the flowers add so much color to the Forrest, the slight chatters coming from the birds.

And the sounds of a waterfall...A waterfall! My lips curve up into a smile similar to the Cheshire Cat himself. My ears lead me to it, the waterfall. It can't be too far if I can hear the loud rumbling from here.

I follow the patters walking closer and closer until I see it. The pool of what seems to be full of fresh water, and a stream that comes down. "This is what we need... freshwater." I slowly walk around the pool of water coming upon the waterfall. I stick my hands out slowly, letting the water fill it. I gulp it down, the water tastes fresh, untouched. I grab more and more water until I'm completely quenched.

I take a seat at the edge of the pool of water. In the worst-case scenario, this should be enough for us two for the rest of our lives. I kick my legs in the water when was the last time I bathed? One? Two? No three days, I think.

I've never gone that long before... maybe this could function in another way as well. There's no soap but...at least I can get off the sand, and dirt off of me.

I unbutton Joseph's shirt that comes mid-length on me. I unclip my bra and bring down my matching panties. I stick my toe into the water, it's cold. Ignoring it, I ease into the water until I'm completely under. Although cold, the water feels nice as it cleans my skin.

I emerge from the water, my hair wet and my skin clear of all sand. "Ther-" my eyes widen when I see a stunned Joseph with a sharp spear in hand. Whose looking down at my naked body as I clean myself.
