Chapter 5
The small crystal-like substance clings to my body causing me to itch. "Fuck, shit!" I scream getting up from the sand in a huff.
"What's wrong with you?" Joseph asks as he eats his pineapple.
"This!" I shout, pointing to the sand. Sleeping on the sand, every night has been the single worse thing about being stranded. I've barely been able to sleep in these conditions. The only decent sleep I've had was that one night... with Joseph in the cave. Other than that, it's been total shit!
The sand clings to my hair, my back, and it itches to hell. Every morning, I have to soak in the water to be able to function. "This sand has been absolute torture to sleep in. We have to do something about this."
"What is there for us to do?" he questions. "There isn't exactly a mattress or something you can sleep on here." I know that! I'm not an idiot, but there has to be something I can make, maybe build to make this place a bit more bearable. I could build a hut...maybe. I need wood and lots of it. And some vines, and leaves...big leaves and... "what are you thinking?"
"Huh? Oh, I think we should build a hut and a makeshift bed. Nothing too extravagant, just big enough for us, so we can stop sleeping in this god awful sand."
"I have a better idea, why don't we just bunk in the cave if it bothers you so much princess," Joseph says digging into his pineapple.
I roll my eyes, "because, of our SOS sign, what if someone sees it and we're not there. We just missed our opportunity in getting the hell off this island."
"Okay, then... well you do that," Joseph stands from the floor.
"Where are you going? Aren't you going to help?" He's going to be sleeping on this thing too, he should help.
"I have other things to do," he stretches.
"Like?" I add.
"Like, going to get more food. I have to gather more fruits and finally catch a fish," I chuckle. Catch a fish? He's been at it for days and there hasn't been a single fish in my belly. I should make him a catching net or something, too in the following days. It'll make it a lot easier for us rather, than him throwing a stick no... spear is what he calls it, around.
"Okay," I wave. "Go do that then," come to think of it. It'll be easier for me to make this without him around. He won't be there to annoy the hell out of me.
"Okay, don't have too much fun without me," he jokes walking off into the forest. I stand up from the sand, I bend down to touch my toes. Then back up again, I look at the ocean whose waves are silent right now. It's amazing how a place so beautiful could be my own personal hell.
I'm forced to sleep in the sand every night, next to a man that I don't even know that well. While being forced to only eat fruits. I'm going to need vines, lots of vines to tighten the sticks I put together.
I turn into the forest, there were some vines about a mile out, there were lots of them. I can get those. Sticks are everywhere, and the leaves won't be much of a problem. I just have to keep a lookout for poison ivy and bugs... urgh bugs. I better wash off the leaves I do find.
My walk through the forest is taxing, to say the least. After we are rescued, first I'm going to take a hot bath! Then, I'm going to eat so many animals that PETA is going to knock on my door. Then, I'm going to get a massage, an expensive one where it feels like the lady is trying to break your back. Lastly, I'm going to sleep in my comfy California king bed for at least ten hours. And when I wake up I'm going to catch up on every show I missed with a huge glass of wine from my father's special stash. And he will not protest in the slightest, because I earned it. Being stuck on an island for how long? Five days... you deserve a drink.
I come up upon the vines. I grab them pulling them with all my strength, taking them down. Yeah... these would work perfectly, they're strong, durable. They'll be great to use for a variety of things. I can make some tools, baskets, you name it.
I continue collecting vines, a small growl looms near me. What was that? Wolves? But this is a tropical island, there shouldn't be any wolves here. I should go, the growls turn into whimpers.
Damn, my curiosity. Please don't let it be anything killer. I pick up the vines and roll them on my shoulder. I follow the whimpers, they're getting louder and louder. I must be going in the right direction.
The whimpers lead me to a wall of leaves. I let out a sigh, behind this could potentially kill me. I should go but, another small whimper comes out. I readjust the vines on my shoulder. I push the leaves back and my jaw drops.
A big dog is lying dead with a smaller dog, maybe even a puppy is there nuzzling itself in it. That must be its mother, and it's...dead. The puppy cuddles more into its mother, letting out small whimpers.
Poor dog, I get closer to get a better look and the young pup turns towards me. It lets out a small growl, "I'm not going to hurt you," I whisper extending my hand. The small dog looks down at my hand, "it's okay."
The young pup smells my hand and rubs against it. He's soo cute, his shiny brown fur, the way his tail wags when he sees me. I scoot closer to him, picking him up.
"I'm going to name you Charlie," I smile pulling him into a hug.
