The next morning, I hopped out of bed early. I couldn't sleep at night because i kept wondering where Emily went. I stayed up like a watch dog waiting patiently for her so i could confront her. She's my little sister, Like it or not we're stuck together. I heard footsteps down the hallway and i knew it was her. I checked my clock and it was 5:25am. After i saw her leave, i had locked her room window to make sure she uses the front door into the house. I opened my door and saw her stepping lightly, careful not to wake anyone, heading to her room.

I closed my door with a loud bang as she turned around in shock to face me. I took slow steps towards her but she hurried towards her room, trying to open the door but it doesn't open. I locked it as well.

She thinks she's clever.

I held her keys up in the air "Looking for this perhaps?" I said, with a low smirk on my face.

"Give me my keys Curtis" She said, glaring at me.

"How about i take these to mom and dad. What do you think Em?"

"Curtis stop your nonsense and give me my keys" She said, as she took the keys from my hands forcefully. "You, stay out of my business. Do you understand?" She warned.

She opens her door and i follow her inside her room. "Em, i am your sister and i just want the best for you. I just feel it's high time u stopped acting like a ..."

"You have no right to tell me what to, and what not to do." She cut me off. "Can't a girl have her birthday party in peace?."

Just then my dad walks in. "Oh look, the calvary just arrived. Great!" She said, rolling her eyes.

"What's going on here girls?" My dad asked, placing his hands on his hips.

"Nothing dad," I looked at Emily. "Two sisters catching up. Am i right, Em?"

Emily kept shut. It appears she's scared of my dad. He stared at Emily and I with serious eyes, and leaves.

"All i am saying is, you should have told someone before you left partying. I am not against you in any way. I wish you were a little mature in your decision." I managed to say.

"I am fine for heaven's sake Curtis, i went out with Hunter. And i am old enough to take care of myself, okay?" She snapped.

"Sneaking out is not a wise choice. Hunter may be your fiancé, but If he was man enough he would come to ask for father's permission" I blurted.

"Enough Curtis, Enough. You have passed your limits now. Do not talk about my fiancé like that" She warned. Me, not knowing Hunter walked into the room.

"I was about to ask for permission Curtis but..." He said, as we turned towards him. His tone giving no emotion "... everyone looked so tired and exhausted so i thought maybe I'd tell them in the morning. I just wanted to spoil Emily on her birthday. And i promise, Emily did nothing she wasn't supposed to do. You have my word." I didn't believe him. I knew Emily better than anyone, he's just covering up for her again.

"Hunter is not as bad as you think. You're just sooo jealous of me and it stings. You just can't see me happy. First, you poisoned mom's mind against my marriage with Hunter. Next, you spoil my birthday party. My friends were so mad today all because i have the greatest sister in the whole universe." Her tone reared sarcasm and fury.

Apparently, Hunter is Emily's high school sweetheart. After college, they both agreed to get married and start a family but mom was against the fact that the junior gets married before the senior. I had tried convincing her that it didn't matter but she didn't bulge. For my case, I was a total relationship wreck. I don't do love or relationships , its all about work work work. My dad's job wasn't enough to run the house. Most of my salary goes to my home to run the house and pay fees so i have to work really hard to meet their demands.

I sigh. "Look Em, i am not in the mood to argue with you. You're not in your right state of mind. There's a bag in your wardrobe, It's your gift." I said, and turned around to leave.

"Red stilleto's?" I heard from behind me and turned to face her. "Did u get these for me or yourself?. Because if you did..." Her eyes narrowed. "You'd know i hate the colour red"

"Baby, don't talk like that." Hunter said, as he tried to calm Emily.

"No, I do not want these ugly shoes." She threw the shoes out her room.

"Em, I'm just too busy. I will make it up to..."

"Sometimes i wonder why you're mom and dad's favorite. Wait for Curtis to cut your cake. It was my birthday and i still had to wait for Curtis!. Wait for Curtis to get married, wait for Curtis to come over. Wait, wait, wait!" She cut me off.

"Em..." I said, trying to reason with her.

"Get out Curtis, i don't want to have this conversation anymore." She said in a low voice.

I walked out her room and she closed her door with a loud bang that ricocheted across the hallway. I picked up the shoes on the floor and headed to my room. I shut the door and rest my back on it as i fell to my feet. The pain in my chest increased by the passing minute, making it hard to breath. I glanced at the clock, it was 5:50am.

I stayed in my room through out the weekend, scared if got out i would meet Emily and the result won't be nice. Monday morning, after my bathe, i wore a knee length two piece long sleeve gown of bright nude and maroon that i found in my trunk. My curly blonde hair fell down my back. My blushed chicks were a shade of bright pink and i applied a red matte lipstick that sets the colour of my eyes. I took my old clothes to the laundry and at 6:30am i was ready for work.

I walked down the stairs to see everyone having breakfast with Hunter at the table.

"Curtis, come join us for breakfast." Mom invited me. I looked over to the table and saw they were having bacon and egg with tea.

"No, thanks" I declined, and i proceed towards the door.

"Curt...!" Seth called out to me.

"Yes Seth?" I replied before i turned around to see Seth walking towards me. "Is something wrong?"

"It's nothing. I was just wondering when we'd see you again. We could hang out next weekend. What do you think?" He asked, his eyes filled with hope.

I brushed a strand of his hair falling over his face to the side. "Oh Seth, if only things were that easy" I glanced at Emily who was on the dinning table minding her food and not caring about my exit. "I have to go, bye."

"Take care of yourself Curtis." My dad said I simply nodded and stepped out of my parents house, away from the family drama.
