"So," I wrap my hair in a towel carefully. "What terms did you and Daniella leave off on, exactly?" I ask Juan who's sitting at the foot of the bed.He drums his hands on his lap as he watches me put on one of his shirts and a pair of shorts. "Well, she told me that she knew nothing could ever happen between the two of us because she knows how much you and I love each other." I crawl into his lap so that I'm straddling him. I run both my thumbs along the sides of his neck gently as he continues his story, his hands rest comfortably on the curve of my bum. He sighs tiredly, looking up at the ceiling for a few seconds before looking back at me. "She said a lot of stuff, babe. Uhh, long story short, I told her that my love for her as a friend was never going to change. That it's still here, it'll always be here, and that she can take as much time away from me as she needs in order to get everything in control. We ended it off in a long hug and she went her own way. And now I'm here," he gives my hips a squeeze, "with my beautiful girlfriend."
I grin, kissing his cheek gently. "It sounds like it went decent considering the circumstances."
He nods, "Yeah. I'm really hoping that from now on, you guys actually get along." he chuckles, shaking his head.
I roll my eyes. "I have always been on my best behavior around your friends and family. It's them who have a problem with me."
"Now you're exaggerating, it's only been her who hasn't been the biggest fan of you. Everyone else has loved you."
"Still. Whatever, at least we can start moving past it all. Maybe we'll actually become good friends one day." I shrug.
"Actually, I should be the one complaining about the others family not liking them. Your brothers hated me when they first met me and the one time I met your Dad, he clearly was not too much of a fan either." he gives me a knowing look.
I giggle, kissing his cheek softly. "You and my brothers are fine now, and I don't give a fuck what Eduardo thinks about you. And I love you which is really all that matters anyway." I kiss his lips firmly.
"What are you planning on doing about your Dad—Eduardo, sorry—anyway?"
"What do you mean?" I ask, in confusion.
He shakes his head. "Never mind." he avoids my gaze by looking down at our legs.
I lift his chin up so that he's forced to look me in the eyes. "Come on, I can handle whatever you're planning on saying or asking."
"Are you ever planning on taking Joel to meet him?" he clears his throat uncomfortably. "I only ask because you know, you sensed that he might want to meet him."
I shrug, "I don't know. I can't help but feel like a bad sister if I don't give him the option to meet him, ya know? He deserves the right to know who he is, right?" I groan, leaning my head on his shoulder. "And who knows what Oscar and Mark would feel about all of this too. It would be Mark who gets the last word anyway. I'd have to talk it out with the both of them. Ugh, it's a lot, Juan." I whine, shaking my head.
He chuckles, kissing the top of my head gently. "It is, but it's something you should do."
"You think?" I ask looking up at him.
He nods. "Yeah. I do. Joel's a great kid. He deserves to meet his Father. Even if nothing comes out of it. And if you don't bring it up, he for sure won't. He knows how much you and your brothers dislike you Father so he would obviously never bring up meeting him if it means upsetting the only family he has left." thats exactly what Joel told me. He didn't want to meet Eduardo if it meant upsetting or losing us.
"Is it selfish that I want Joel to dislike him?"
"Not at all. You're scared of the possibility of losing him. That's completely normal." he begins rubbing small circles on my lower back. "Do you think he would dislike him?"
"Huh?"
"Other then the fact that he abandoned his family, is there any reason for Joel to dislike him as a person?" he clears his throat carefully, I know he's scared to set me off. He knows what a sensitive subject this is for me.
I sigh, sitting up straight. "If—If he gets past the fact that he left us...no. My Dad was a very likable guy from what I remember. My Mom always talked about how everybody loved him. He was the life of the party, according to her. Then again, she was helplessly in love with him." I shrug off the ugly feeling coming over my body, I cross my arms over my chest and close my eyes. "He looked so worn out, Juan." I sat quietly.
"It's been twenty years since you've seen him. That's normal. People age." he caresses my cheek softly.
I shake my head and open my eyes. "No. He didn't just look worn out. He looked sad. Lifeless. I don't even know if he has another family by now. He could be married with kids by now." I shudder at the thought. "I could have other siblings I don't even know about."
"No. No way. Why would he leave his family which was overwhelming him to go have another one?"
I shrug, staring blankly at him. I roll of of him and sit next to him. "I don't know. It's a big possibility though. I don't know what he's been up to these last seventeen years."
He nudges me gently, bringing me out of my dazed state. "Hey, you're starting to freak yourself out. Stop it. You won't have any of the answers to your questions until you talk to him."
"Ugh, you're right."

Exactly one week later I'm sitting in Joel's room. He shuts the door behind him before walks over to his head and lays down. I'm sitting at the foot of the bed nervously. "What's up, Anna? When do you plan on taking me to Colombia again?" he grins scrolling through his phone calmly.
I gulp nervously. "Can you put the phone down, Joel?" after having one very long conversation with both Mark and Oscar, we all agreed that Joel should get to meet Eduardo at least once, multiple times if he chooses to.
He slowly puts it down, looking more serious then before. "What's wrong?"
"Eduardo—Dad, would you be interested in meeting him? And please, please don't let what Mark, Oscar, and I have have said about you meeting him. What do you want? Is that's something you'd want to do?"
He shrugs. "I don't know. Maybe. How would you even get ahold of him?"
"I know where he works. That's really about it." I move closer to him and take his hands in mine.
"Seriously. If you want to meet him, I'd be more than happy to take you and see what happens." Mark and Oscar weren't really ready to see our dad again after so much time. I've already seen and talked to him so it wasn't as tough to handle seeing him again.
He chews on his bottom lip nervously before giving my hands a tight squeeze. "Let's do it."
