I'm laying on my couch with a pair of sweatpants and a hoodie, catching up on some recordings when I hear my doorbell ring. I check the time quickly to realize that Jason is supposed to pick me up right now. "Shit!" I say to myself before quickly standing up to go answer the door.
"Hey! Are you...coming like that?" asks Jason once I open the door, looking over my outfit.
I gesture for him to come in, "No, I'm really sorry. I forgot you were picking me up at this time. Just let me go change really quick. I'll try not to be too long." i'm halfway up the stairs when I realize that he's still standing at the entrance, "Make yourself at home! Feel free to sit down and watch some television." I smile down at him, making my way up to my room.
After i've quickly changed and made my way downstairs we head to Jason's car. "I like your car, it's new right?" I ask looking around the fancy car.
"Yeah, it is. Thanks." after a few more seconds of silence he says, "Sorry but I just can't not ask you this, how is your boyfriend possibly okay with you being here with me?" he looks over at me, waiting for an answer.
I look down, beginning to pick at the loose strands of my ripped jeans, "We aren't really really together right now."
He immediately asks if it has anything to do with him coming over the other night, to which I respond with, "No! You have nothing to do with it. It's some stuff I'd just rather not talk about right now." I shrug.
He nods casually, "Okay. That's cool with me."
We're quickly seated and served our drinks once we arrive at what used to be one of our favorite spots to eat dinner, "So, how have you been?" I ask taking a sip of my drink.
"I've been pretty good. How about you? I see that you're clearly dating again." he chuckles.
I nod, "Yeah, i've been good. And yes, I was dating again. Until I got in a relationship."
"And now you're...single?" he asks, raising an eyebrow at me.
Hesitantly I nod, "Somewhat, yes."
"I've missed you a lot, Anna." he admits, smiling sadly. "Obviously being without me has done you a lot of good. You look incredible."
I smile shyly, "Thank you. But I think it just mostly has to do with the people i've surrounded myself with since we broke up."
"How are your brothers?" he asks shortly after our food is brought to the table.
I almost choke on my pasta from trying to hold back a laugh, "You really want to know about how they're doing after what they did to you?" I ask after swallowing.
He chuckles, "Well, I deserved getting my ass best by them. They were just protecting their sister. I get why they did it, there's no hard feelings." he shrugs.
I sigh, "Ugh, if only they had that mindset."
He scratches the back of his neck nervously, "Y-you forgive me for all the stupid mistakes i've made with you, right?" he asks.
I stiffen at his question. "If I didn't, would we be sitting here right now?" seeing that he's not totally satisfied with my answer, I nod. "Yes, I forgive you Jason. It took some time but I forgive you. For everything." I smile at his look of relief.
