The days pass, and I continue to live with the weight of this secret inside.

I begged the Baron not to mention it to anyone, at least until we know what happened to his body, and why it is the only one that was not found.

I will be giving myself false illusions perhaps, but inside of me I know Wooyoung is alive, I still have hope.

I hear a knock on the door, and go to open, finding myself in front of Seonghwa.
"I hope not to bother"
He tells me, glancing inside my room, and then turning his attention back to me.
"I was just sewing"
My dull tone reveals much more, I am aware of it, and he too, knows me too well.
"Did I do something? If so, I apologize-"
"You have nothing to do with it, Seonghwa. I'm just worried about the countess"
I interrupt him with a half-truth; I absolutely don't want him to feel guilty about something he didn't do.

"Seonghwa hurry!! We need help down!!"
Hongjoong appears in the corridor with an evident anxiety.
"What happened?"
I ask worried.
"The Earl is back!"

We rush to the gates, and the first thing I see is a giant man, carrying a cart with him.

As soon as they let him in, my gaze immediately falls on that old wooden cart, and I see my Wooyoung lying down, eyes closed, covered with a blanket of raw wool.

"What happened?"
"Is he injured?"
The servants start bombarding the man with questions, but my only order is to have a doctor arrive immediately.

Wooyoung is transported to his room and all the material is prepared waiting for Dr. Lee.

"Where did you find him?"
I ask the bearded man, quite intimidating in my eyes.
"He was crawling on the driveway to my farm. I did my best to cure him, then he woke up one evening and begged me to bring him here."
The man explains to me, and I'm almost tempted to hug him.
"You have no idea of my gratitude. You will have a great reward."

My day passes out of his room, with the servants going back and forth with basins of water, while the doctor works.

I cover my ears with my hands when I hear strangled screams coming from the room, and I know the doctor is closing the wound with fire;
And I begin to pray that Wooyoung survives this pain.

As soon as I see Dr. Lee coming out, I rush to him for news.

"The bullet pierced his back, he was lucky. If it remained inside he would be dead now."
He tells me, wiping his hands with blood on a rag.
"Will he survive?"
I ask him, with my heart that stops beating waiting for his destiny.
"Yes, Earl Wooyoung is young and strong. He will recover soon."
I breathe a sigh of relief, and I seem to have returned to living suddenly.
"Go to him, he repeated your name many times while he was unconscious"
I bow slightly to the doctor, and rush into Wooyoung's room.

The maids take away the basins with the blood-stained water, and I remain alone.

I hardly have the courage to come closer, noticing from here his pale color instead of his amber skin, and the bare chest full of bandages.

"Hea-"
His whisper in a broken voice interrupts my thoughts, and I immediately go and sit on the edge of the bed.
"I'm here"
I tell him, with tears in my eyes seeing him in these conditions.

He slowly opens his eyes, with obvious effort, and I take his hand in mine, without resisting filling it with kisses.
"I kept my promise"
His voice is hoarse and low, still marked by pain;
And I try to hold back the tears, to look strong at least in front of him.
"Please don't talk, you need to rest"
I give him a light kiss on his forehead, still damp from fever.
"But..you do not?"
Wooyoung says, noticing the lack of a ring on my finger.
"I didn't get married"
He smiles at my sentence, but slowly closes his eyes, too tired from what he has suffered.
