Chapter 9

Hea PV

I look at Wooyoung frightened, and he signals me to be silent.

I remain blocked where I am, while he slowly approaches the place where the screams came from;
Turn the corner beyond the hedge and I don't see him anymore,
but after a few seconds I hear loud cries from a girl and noises clearly from fists.

I can no longer restrain myself and run to him, and as soon as I turn the corner, I see Kiki on the floor in tears and Wooyoung on top of a man while punching him..

"Oh my god Kiki!"
I say reaching the young maid, who continues to sob in my arms.

"Bring her inside Hea!"
Wooyoung tells me almost grinding his teeth; while he lifts the man by his jacket and knocks him back down hard, making a sound of broken bones.

I take Kiki and help her to walk because she is still shaking.

"Tell me we got there in time"
I tell her by helping her lie down in my bed.
She nods, but can't talk between sobs.
"Thank goodness!"
I'm relieved; Kiki is only 14 years old and is like a younger sister to me.

"Do you know who he was?"
I ask her, giving her a cup of tea, now that she has stopped crying.

"No, but I think he was a nobleman, from the clothes he wore.."
"Bastards! That's what they are"
Hyunae says entering the room with blankets.

"Not everyone"
I say in a low voice,
"Find me a different one! Hea, you still live in the world of books"

I make a sure example; I don't know the Earl well, but he was always kind and elegant when he visited the estate.

When I'm about to ask for explanations, Wooyoung enters the room.

Wooyoung answers seriously to Kiki, and I feel proud to be at his service.

He says opening the door waiting for me, and I look at Hyunae, I don't want to leave Kiki alone for a second.

"I'll stay with her"
She tells me, understanding my concern.
