Vol woke up slowly, noticing something warm under him. It was Wolford, still unconscious. He looked up to see who was taking them, which surprised him since it was Lone who was driving the police car they were in. He merely recovered from his subdued drowsiness as Lone began to speak.
"Are you awake already? Sorry for dragging you out of that place like that, but you were in danger."
The fox didn't speak, he didn't fully recover yet. When he was recovering his strength, he saw Wolford's arm, with a gun drawn, pointed at Lone.
"Watch out, Vol! It's the wanted criminal Lone! Get down!"
Vol lowered the wolf's arms carefully. "Wait! Wait Wolford, don't shoot... Let me explain, buddy."
"Are you out of your mind? He's going to kill us!" He looked at him in surprise and then looked at Lone. "Stop the car or I'll shoot!" Lone listened to him and pulled the vehicle to the side.
Vol tried to reason with him. "Please, I'm going to explain all this to you. Lone isn't bad, he won't do anything to us." The police wolf widened his eyes in surprise. "He saved me a few times when I was in a pickle, believe me."
"Okay, I'll listen to you..." Lobato sighed, still suspicious and looking by the corner of his eyes at the supposed criminal.
Vol went on. "Although Lone is wanted right now, I've been able to discover that he isn't how they put him in the search and capture of the ZPD, he has worked hard to keep me alive and helped Nick too when we were both poisoned. I once went to his base and he really wants to keep peace and justice in Zootopia. He has helped us all he could."
Wolford thought about the words of his partner. "But I'm missing something... He's wanted for killing. How doesn't that make him bad?"
Lone stepped forward and spoke. "If I did kill, they were the criminals that deserved it. I've never touched innocents or other criminals. I'd make them appear unconscious at the door of the ZPD."
"It all sounds very utopian. Why would a criminal go out of his way to protect a cop? You could kill us right now." Wolford recriminated.
"I could do it..." Lone smiled teasingly. "But that doesn't bring anything good, neither to me, nor to the city nor... of course, to your companions or family."
The police wolf widened his eyes. "Are you serious? I've never heard a criminal say that."
"I told you he's not bad." Vol smiled at his partner.
"Okay, I believe you... partially," he sighed, "but why did you drag us out of there?"
Lone took a breath. "I'll tell you why, but I have to hide the car, they may still be looking for you." Vol looked at Wolford and he nodded. The dark wolf drove to a hidden place so as not to be seen and turned to the policemammals. "I start: While you were looking for more clues about that accident, I returned from a mission that I set myself and was preparing to rest a bit... but I received the messages that Judy was trying to send you to the pawheld radio with little success."
"Because there's no signal..." Wolford commented, to which Lone nodded.
"That's right. I had no choice but to get you out of there, but I knew that Vol wouldn't want to finish and that you wouldn't believe me, Wolford, so I decided to get you out of there, making you sleep with my artifacts."
Vol scratched the bottom of his jaw. "Okay, according to you, we were in danger, but who was threatening our lives?"
Lone sighed and clasped his paws. "Her messages didn't say who it was and I still haven't been able to figure out who they were, but they seemed to be coming straight for you. You'll have to talk to Judy."
