"Boss, I don't know how they managed but... they escaped." The rough appearance of the hedgehog disappeared when he was in front of who he called 'boss'.
The female figure turned around in her chair, but her face wasn't shown, she was still in the dark, even so, protected by a pair of wolves. "Do you think I'm stupid!? Useless, both of you! You're going to be sorry if they find me." She pulled out a sharp pocket knife and slammed it onto the table with a loud bang. "You're lucky that I'm in a good mood, if not, I'd have pierced your head with this knife."
"Thanks boss, we won't fail next time we kidnap 'em. We'll be ready." The beaver replied, trembling in fear.
"You better. Go away now!" The two of them left a bit embarrassed, their heads lowered. "If they can't do it... I'll kill those cops myself." She showed a gun from her waist, loaded it, and put it back on the holster.
Vol woke up in the morning to the first rays of the sun, shortly before the alarm clock rang. As always, it was his turn to take care of breakfast for the famous pair of mammals, something made by him and in gratitude for the rescue that random day they found him in full investigation.
"Guys, breakfast is ready!" The two of them stretched and walked towards the kitchen with a soft and delicious smell, typical of the morning.
"It always smells good when you do it, you seem like an expert at it." Judy couldn't let the moment to praise him go to waste.
Vol smiled. "It's the least I can do for my saviors."
Nick was slightly surprised when he brought up the subject of salvation. "But... you were the one who saved me from the beaver when he held my legs so hard." He showed his smile as he played along with his vulpine partner.
Vol shook his head. "It's not really just because of that, even so, I couldn't even get up and you got me out of there... It's for saving me from my bad life here and giving me a chance, being a policemammal in the end. It's the least I can do." He smiled again.
Judy showed her little front teeth in a smile. "It'd have been horrible to have let you live in those conditions. We did what was right."
"Anyway, thank you very much, I intend to give you food every day of your life if necessary." The smile from Vol got wider.
"I don't know what's going on in your head, but it seems like more than just your words. Remember I told you that you were very obvious." Nick smiled and narrowed his eyes like he always does.
"Maybe yes... maybe not..." The blue fox wanted to give a mysterious air to his intentions. Judy wanted to ask about it when Nick talked about the obviousness of Vol, but understood that it was due to the moment they were alone before being kidnapped and she preferred to not go deeper into it.
It was time to put on the police uniform and go to work on the investigation. It didn't take long, they were eager to find out who kidnapped the foxes and go after her, since Nick and Vol heard that it was a female boss. They went to the ZPD and got to work with the conjectures.
"So... a woman... Didn't they say species?" Judy asked, curious.
"Nothing else, we only heard 'boss' and their curses for not killing us." Nick replied.
"Could it be a species related to rodents? A beaver works with her, also a hedgehog... There may be a possibility." Vol tried to make sense of it.
Judy shook her head. "The names and species you collected didn't include a rodent in this case."
"What about the name that wasn't in the data?" Nick remembered.
"As much as I searched for it over and over again, I couldn't find it." She scratched her head. "It's weird that, having worked in that place, she doesn't have any official identification."
