Chapter ✿ One

❝ALONE❞

Louis sighs, pulling the blankets up to his chin. Today was his birthday... It was a good day. Jay and Louis had cake, he opened lots of presents and his mum even cooked him his favourite food, chicken nuggets.

But one thing was bothering him... And every time he tried to get his mind off of it, there was still an aching in his heart. Harry and Lottie had forgotten his birthday...

Louis realises he is only eleven and it's not an important birthday, but he did think he was important to them.

"You ready to be tucked in, Lou?" Jay stands at the doorway of the dimly lit room, a soft smile on her face and a little birthday bag in her hand.

"Yes, mummy..." Louis mumbles, rubbing his face on his pillow to get rid of any tears.

"Are you okay, baby?" Jay sits on the bed, smoothing Louis' hair down with her hand. "Tell me what's wrong..."

"They forgot," Louis sulks, sitting up and resting his head on Jay's shoulder.

Jay closes her eyes momentarily and she rubs Louis' shoulder. "I doubt they forgot, Louis... You're too special to them. They probably just got caught up and didn't have time to call."

"They never do... They're always too busy for me now," Louis' bottom lip wobbles. "I thought they loved me."

"Lou," Jay pulls him in for a hug, holding him tightly in her arms. "They do love you. I promise with all my heart they do... College is hard, little one. They're going to be very busy for a long time."

"I miss them," Louis whispers, looking up at his mother. "I just want them back..."

Jay nods, "I miss them too... So much." She cups Louis' face with one hand. "They will be back though... For visits on their breaks and once college is finished, Lottie has said they'll be moving back."

"Can I try to call them tomorrow?" Louis pleads, batting his eyes at his mum.

"Well," Jay grins, reaching over to the side of the bed to get the bag. "I've got one last present for you..."

Louis gasps and looks at the bag with curious eyes. "You've already got me so much..." Louis wraps his arms over his stomach insecurely.

"Well you're my boy... And it's your eleventh birthday." Jay chuckles, pressing a kiss to Louis' temple. She motions the bag to Louis and allows him to open it.

He gasps, "oh my God, really?!" He holds the brand new phone to his chest, grinning so wide.

"I thought it'd be easier for you to have one of your own, you may be able to talk to Harry and Lottie more..."

"Thank you so much!" Louis yells, hugging Jay tightly. "I love you mummy."

"I love you too, Lou... We will set it up tomorrow, okay? But right now you need sleep... Santa is coming tonight!"

Louis smiles, "yay!" He wiggles himself in back under the blankets and let's Jay pull them up.

"Goodnight, Lou... See you in the morning." She presses a kiss to his cheek and puts the phone on his bed side table. "Sweet dreams, baby..."

Harry [8:10am] I could never forget your birthday! I was in lectures all day and it was late when I got home. Lottie says happy birthday too! :*

Louis [8:12am] I've got to go mum wonts me to open prezents 😢 I love you ❤️

Harry [8:13am] have a good day blue, love you more. xo
