I opened the door slowly, trying not to make any noise. It was around midnight and I had countless call and texts from my brothers, asking where I went off to.

The lights were all off as I walked inside. I tip toed in the direction of the stairs. My efforts were useless as a loose floor board creaked and the lights flickered on almost immediately.

Across from me stood Cade, Dallas, Darrell, and Orange. They all stared at me expectedly and I did the same.

Eventually, Darrell spoke. "Where have you been?!" He said loudly while still trying to not wake anyone up upstairs. "Do you not know how to answer your phone or something?!" He gestured to the phone in my hand.

I went into defense mode. "Hey, you all left me." I pointed at Darrell and Orange.

The twins gave them a pointed look. "What do you mean, they left you?" Cade asked me, confused.

"Well, since you asked, Orange and Spencer ran off to play beer pong." I paused to look at Darrell. "And, if I'm correct, Darrell was too busy shoving his tongue down some tween's throat to notice me walking away." I told them keeping a straight face.

Darrell brushed off their shocked looks. "Yeah.. well...where have you been, huh?"

"With a friend." I shrugged.

"Yeah, right. You don't have any friends." Orange butted in.

I scowled at him. "I met him at the party."

"Him?" Cade's eyes widened.

"Why is it that when adults hear about a girl and a guy hanging out, they automatically assume they're more than just friends." I said the last part slowly, hoping it would sink in.

Of course I like Brock. But I'm not stupid. He's the total fuckboy type. And if he's not, there's still no way he'd be interested in me.

After none of them said anything, I finally started. "Brock Henderson." I told them reluctantly.

I trudged up the stairs. I could hear them calling to me and arguing with each other but I ignored it all. Climbing up to my bed, I passed out the moment my head hit the pillow.

"They keep telling me
Do your best be who they want you to be
I don't know which way to go
I'm stuck between....."

The last couple of days, my brothers have been a bit..... dramatic? I guess that'd be the best word to describe them recently. They still haven't let the whole Brock thing go.

I've had so much free time since I've been avoiding them; I actually wrote an entire song!

Well... most of a song. I still haven't figured out the bridge. I locked myself in the recording studio all morning in hopes of finishing it.

Tennis tryouts are tomorrow.

If these lyrics seem a little odd to you...it's because they are.

I'm starting at a new school. The way I see this, it could go one of two ways. It could go great, everyone will love me and I'll be the talk of the school by the first day. Or, it could go terrible. I could miss every shot and my social life here will be over before school even starts. I'm hoping for the first one.

Not to sound like a total hippie or anything, but this song is basically me trying to pick out the exact moves to make in the next 24 hours that won't lead to me spending every Saturday night alone at home.

"....All that I can hear
Are voices in my ear telling me what I can be
Well, guess what I've had enough
My destiny is up to me"

I finished up what I have of my song before grabbing my things to head home.

When I reached the bottom of the stairs, I heard Darrell and Orange arguing over who knows what. In hopes of avoiding then for as long as possible, I slipped out the back door and through the gate before hopping on my bike and pedaling home.

Tennis.

It's all I can think about! I even dreamt that I was playing a match last night!

I told Mom that Jake wanted to take me to tryouts today, and she reluctantly agreed once I told her Jake would be leaving for college this weekend.

Jake parked his bright orange Camaro as he looked over my competition. The 20 or so other girls were already warming up on the courts.

"You've never met any of these girls, so we don't know what they're capable of yet." Jake started.

"That's where you're wrong." I stopped him. He was right. I technically didn't know any of them. But there was a familiar blonde who I vividly remember trying to suck my brother's face off.

I stepped out of the car and decided I would just ignore her. There are, like 20 other people to talk to.

Setting my bag down on the bench, I took out the light purple racket my aunt gave me for Christmas. "Hi, I'm Erika." I turned my head to see a short, stubby girl holding a bright yellow racket that looked brand new.

"Jessie." I smiled back and shook her hand.

"Alright girls, circle up!" I heard the coach yell out and Erika and I rushed over. "I'm coach Lacoya. I'm proud to say this is the biggest turn out we've ever gotten. There are twenty-four of you trying out. I can take twelve of you, plus our two seniors, Caitlin and Georgie."

I noticed the two girls standing behind him then. The taller one, probably about 5'10", stood on the left. She had blonde hair almost as long as mine, light blue eyes, and pale skin.

How she isn't tan, living here on the coast, I honestly have no idea.

The taller girl stepped forward and introduced herself. "Hi y'all!" Oh yay. "I'm Caitlin, team captain!"

The shorter girl looked the complete opposite of Caitlin. Unlike Caitlin, Georgie's only an inch or two taller than me and has much darker skin.

Georgie stepped forward to introduce herself too, but the coach cut her off. "Alright girls! Triangle, go!"

"What's the triangle?" I turned to ask Erika but she already started; though her legs were too short to run as fast as the others.

Apparently, the "triangle" is when we run around the middle, high, and elementary schools. The three schools are set up in a triangular shape on a map.

A/N: the schools are all next to each other.

"I think I'm dying." Erika panted as we both finally finished running.

I laughed lightly as I collapsed onto a bench.

"Huh, look who finished last." I glanced up to see Little Miss Blondie. I still don't know her name so I think I'll just continue calling her that. "No surprise there....."

I have had it with this girl! She thinks she knows it all. And I bet she's got it all, too.

Before I could overreact, something bright caught my eye from the parking lot. Jake's car.

Jake was sitting on the hood of his car. He motioned for me to calm down. I know it sounds silly, but once I realized I wasn't alone, I felt so much better. This doesn't mean I won't crush her on the court.

The tryouts started off with everyone playing against people in the same grade as themselves. Because of that, my first 3 matches flew by.

6-0; 6-1
6-2; 6-2
6-1; 6-3

A/N: If you don't play tennis and don't know the terms I'm sorry. It's not really important, just know Jessie won.

Before you know it, tryouts were over for the day. Tomorrow I play the Sophomores.....
