6:55 am

"May Henderson!"

"Here!"

"Jessie Keene!"

"Here!" Ms. Taggart called our names one by one, making sure everyone was on the bus before beginning our 5 hour drive. We had to yell for her to hear us, and vice versa, over the bus engine and the 30 or so kids on the bus.

"John Russell!"

"I'm here, I'm here!" John leaped up the steps behind Ms. Taggart.

"Glad you could make it, John."

"Yeah, me too."

"and Spencer Sawyer!"

"Here!" Spencer and I got here early in hopes of getting our own seats. We got the back row of the bus to ourselves, but now John is here to sit with Spencer.

"Alright, looks like everyone is here now. Let's roll out!"

Let's just say it was a long drive. We stopped at a shopping center about 2 hours in that had quite a few restaurants. We stayed for about 30 minutes then got back on the bus and continued driving.

Once we got to the convention center, Ms. Taggart checked us in, then handed out 3 things to each of us. One was a name tag to pin on our shirts or jackets. We're required to wear them whenever we're not in our rooms, or else we could be disqualified. The second was our itinerary. It showed when and where each event would take place, and when the ceremonies would be. It also had a list of workshops and recognition tests we could attend. We're required to go to at least 3 of them. Damn, I was planning on spending the weekend at the mall. The third was our room assignments.

After seeing the amount of stuff the other kids brought, I realized I may have over packed just a bit. I dragged my two suitcases and backpack over to the elevator, along with the other 27 kids from my school.

Kyrsten, May, John, Spencer and me all squeeze in to the first elevator with all of our luggage and hit the 12th floor. "What rooms are you guys in?" I asked, hoping to be sharing a room with just May and Kyrsten.

"1213" The girls said in unison and we all had a mini celebration.

"We're both in 1207." Spencer told us.

The elevator finally opens and we all turn right, towards our rooms. "Well, this is us. See ya later ladies." John said before unlocking the door to their room.

Across from the boys room was the opening to another hallway. I checked the first room number in the hallway, just to make sure. "Hey, this is 1211, our room is this way." I called them back. Turns out, we're really only 2 doors away from the guys.

I opened the door to a tinyroom. There was a closet and bathroom right near the door. Then it opens up into a small room with 2 queen size beds that you could barely even walk between. May and I threw our bags on the first bed, and Kyrsten went to the second.

At the far side of the room, there was a clear sliding door, that lead onto a balcony. I stepped out onto it and checked out the view. Just like the room, it was nothing special. We had a great view of the parking lot. And the mall.

"When do you guys have your first event?" May asked, breaking me from my daydream of the mall.

"They're not till tomorrow morning. We have to meet everyone for the opening ceremony at 6:30." It's only 12 now.

I made a group chat with the 3 of us and the boys.

Jessie
Sup bitches!

Kyrsten
What is this?

Jessie
A text?

"But you're in the same room as me." I heard Kyrsten say and can't stop myself from laughing my head off.

May
I'm going to the Social Media workshop at 1 who's coming with?

John
Spencer and I r in. Meet by the elevator in half an hour

I put my phone down and dug through my suitcase for an outfit. I take out my matching blazer and pants, a white collared top, and nude colored heels. Damn, I hate this stupid dress code.

I don't bother to put on makeup or do much with my hair

I don't bother to put on makeup or do much with my hair. This doesn't technically count for anything regarding how we score in our events.

I pulled my black clutch out of my backpack and make sure I have everything I need. Cash, phone, pen and pencil. Check, check, and check. I almost forgot to clip my name tag on to my blazer.

It was already past 12:30 so we all decide to go meet the guys. I turn around towards the door, but see that somebody was already opening it.
