Heavenly Harpies

Chapter 11: Blizzard

    You and Oliver were crowded around a campfire, a blizzard was howling around outside the small cave near the overhang. Chase was leaned up against the wall, his wings packed close to him. Poppy was curled up, sleeping and Jackie was sitting near the entrance, staring at the snow whirling around. Oliver stopped laughing from a joke you said and gave you a smirk. You find yourself blushing, and then he sighed. You look at him, "Why do you hide your wings under that cape?" He looked at you, rather uneasy. "I'm sure they are quite beautiful wings. What type of harpy are you? Knowing that your the successor of Mirso, I'd assume your a cardinal." You gave a grin to him and then he, softly smiling with a hint of sadness, removed his cape and buried his head in his hands. Your eyes widened, and even Chase looked a little shocked. Oliver lifted his head and sighed, " Barn owl harpy, and...well..." He almost started crying. What you saw, it broke your heart. He only had one wing.

   Jackie interrupted the emotions, "Uh? Guys? Someone's coming." You look up to see a shadow moving towards the cave. A young boy collapsed into Jackie's arms, shaking violently. She stared at him and quickly picked him up and set him near the fire and grabbed some blankets. She covered him delicately. "Oh gosh, hes frozen. Look at the poor thing. Hes like 12." He warmed up a little and shivered as he scooted towards Poppy. He whimpered and she woke up. Instantly her face turned red. He curled up next to her. She opened her mouth and looked around and pointed at him speechless. "Uh... help?" Jackie shook her head and shushed her.
  
     Oliver took your hand and instantly Chase grabbed Oliver's shoulder and dug his nails into Oliver's skin. He let out a high pitched squeal and you grab Chases arm, wrenching it from Oliver, who groaned in pain and held his shoulder.
 
    You take Chase outside where the blizzard had slowed down. "What is wrong with you?! You dont just do that to someone!" Chase was enraged, "I dont like him touching you! Is that so bad? I dont have to like everyone you do!" "You don't just hurt someone! What the heck is going on?! You've been so pushy to be by my side!" "BECAUSE I LOVE YOU!" He shouted out and burst into tears. "I thought you loved me too! Clearly I was wrong." He went back in and curled up in the corner and cried. You stood there, shocked.

     You walk to the edge and take a deep breath, looking out. Oliver comes and sides by you. "Hey.." He said softly. You look at him, tearing up. "I screwed up." He sighed and took your hand in his. "You'll be alright. I heard about it." He smiled and then winked at you, and stood up. He went back inside leaving you to deal with your emotions, knowing that you wanted to be alone.
