Town of Jabusim
April 2001
The knife gleamed in the dim light. The vampire hunter opened his hand letting the knife fall with a clank in his bag along with the rest of his weapons.
Zipping the bag shut, Jungkook slung it on his shoulder. He turned to find his grandfather standing in the doorway holding the family dagger in his hand.
Outside he could hear the children of the village playing and the teenagers chanting as they trained together.
His grandfather smiled at him, his hair gray and his hands slightly trembling but despite the fact that he was almost 80 he still stood proud and straight.
But his eyes said he had lived life the rough way, that he had seen a lot.
"My father gave this to me on my first hunt..." his grandfather held the fancy family dagger out to him. "And I gave this to your father but he never came back... but this did...I guess...It was meant for you."
Jungkook could see his grandfather was heartbroken at him leaving, the cold mask he always wore was breaking. How could he not be sad? Jungkook was eight years old when his father died and Hoseok was eleven and ever since then their grandpa had been their father.
And sending the youngest son on his first hunt was painful when the old man had not even recovered from the loss of his only son.
"Dada don't worry... everything will be fine," Jungkook reassured his grandpa as he took the leather-covered dagger from his dada's unsteady hands and secured it to his belt.
His grandpa managed a smile, "Yeah I know."
Jungkook hugged his grandpa. The man who had sculpted him and Hoseok trained them and made them who they are.
His grandfather was a kind of a legend in his time. The best vampire hunter. He wouldn't t cringe laughing in the face of the devil. Alas, he broke down when he lost his son.
"Farewell." His grandfather whispered close to his ear. "May you succeed and come back proudly."
"Farewell," Jungkook whispered back. He held onto his grandfather's warm form for a moment longer letting himself memorize how safe it felt to be this close to his family.
"Jungkook!" Jungkook heard his brother's voice, "We need to leave."
"Coming!" The younger called back as he pulled away from his grandfather. He tightened his hold on the straps of his bag as he looked at his grandfather who was avoiding Jungkook eyes.
"Think about it - "his grandpa begun.
"I promise to stay safe dada," Jungkook interrupted. His Dada fell silent.
Jungkook took a deep breath and kissed his grandfather's forehead and left.
And his grandfather felt like he was back in time. He was sending Jungkook's father on the hunt after the prophecy. Sending his son to die.
Jungkook's P.O.V:
I started into my bowl of soup laid in front of me. For some reason, I had lost my appetite. I already missed my home. And mother.
For some reason when I was leaving, I had felt like I won't be able to come back again. But I knew I had to go home for dada and ma.
"Why did you get the dagger and not me?" Hoseok asked turning to me pulling me back to the present.
We were sitting in the bar of the small town eating lunch. Outside it was too bright. The sun shining with all its might. We were stopping to rest at Ilsan and scout the area before heading forward.
