"Surprise!" The quirky, cartoony, pink pigtailed gem grabs at Steven with her stretchy arms bringing him in for a bone crushing hug.
"Did ya miss me, Steven?"
"I... I missed you Spinel. Please let me go, I can't breathe."
She lets him go from her constricting hug. Pearl lowers her spear eyeing Spinel. "Long time no see." Said Amethyst. "So how is it with the Diamonds?" Steven asks her stepping of the warp pad with a bounce in her step.
"What can I say, they adore me especially White." Spinel looks around seeing the Christmas decorations around her. "Steven what is all this?"
"They're decorations for Christmas."Spinel cocked her head to one side questionably. "Christmas? Is it a type of gem?"
"Not really, it's actually a holiday."
"A holiday?"
He placed his hand on her shoulder leading her down the stairs, as Steven wove a magical tale of sugarplums and candy having the pink gem take in on this new information of this enchanting holiday including the most magical of all: Santa Claus. This makes her eyes grow wide with joy and wonder twinkling brighter than any lights. "There's also lots of Christmas food to eat." Amethyst said handing her a candy cane.
It's true that gems can eat but they don't really have the need to do so. Amethyst does because she likes the idea.
"Steven," Spinel began, "I wanna see Santa Claus!" She said with stars in her eyes. "We're just about to head to the Festival of Lights." He said holding at her hand going outside with his jacket on with the plan to swing by Connie's to bring her with him to see the lights.
"Steven there you are, ready for the Festival of Lights?" Greg sood by his van and catches sight of Spinel.
"Isn't she that crazy gem that tried to kill you?!"
"Dad, it's just Spinel and she wants to see the lights and Santa."
She does that cute little bounce thing with a smile on her face. "That's a relief as long as she doesn't try kill anyone."
Setting off in the van with Spinel and the Crystal Gems, they drive to Connie's house to pick her up to see the lights. "Steven!" The girl brings him in for a hug and a kiss on his cheek. "Are you ready for the Festival of Lights?" She nods staring back at him then her vision spots Spinel. "It's okay, she's harmless now and wants to come with us."
They arrive to the Festival of lights and Beach City looks beautiful in the holiday season. "It's all so shiny." Said Spinel admiring the lights twinking with many colors.
Spinel then spots former Mayor Dewey dressed as Santa and runs over to him. "Santa!!!"
"Spinel wait!" Steven and Connie chase after her until Connie caught her wrist. "I get the enthusiasm and all but there's a line of kids also wanting to sit on Santa's lap too. "Steven told me he's a jolly fat guy who leaves presents. I want a present from him."Lapis and Peridot were also in that line with Bismuth. "Do you think this Santa Claus also leaves gifts for gems?" Peridot asks. "I think so." The blue water gem tells the short green gem. "Of course he does, when Santa leaves presents for everyone he means everyone including gems." Said Bismuth.
Onion was on Santa Dewey's lap eating a gingerbread man. "Ho ho ho, what do you want for Christmas little boy?" The weird boy whispers something into his ear. "Okay then..." Vidalia takes a picture with her camera then leads Onion by the hand.
Spinel sees the little children being placed on Santa Dewey's lap as they tell him what they want for Christmas even some grown folks with their lists and letters to send out to the North Pole. Peridot was on his lap asking question like, how do 8 reindeer fly, is there like a time thing that makes the trip around the world in one night possible, since the North Pole is so cold how you make it habitable and so on until Lapis kindly imterrupted her to just ask for what present she wants for Christmas this year. "Perhaps I do want another device like this but bigger." She said referring to the small smart tablet in her hands.
Lapis gets her turn asking for a large enough pool of water. "I hope that is okay?"
"Of course it is little blue lady."After them, Spinel leaps onto his lap. "What do you want for Christmas... little lady..." Santa Dewey said a little strained.
Spinel didn't think she would get this far. "What would I like for Christmas?"
"Can Ol' Santa give a suggestion?" She looks up slowly nodding. "How would you like a little doll?"
"I would like that. I want a doll for Christmas." Steven held his phone to take a picture of Spinel for her very first holiday photo op."Steven look!" Connie points to a garden decorated with twinkling Christmas lights it looks to be something new for the Festival of Lights. Spinel follows behind seeing the garden remembering that Pink Diamond left her there for 6,000 years. Steven looks behind her knowing that look. "It's okay Spinel, we won't leave you."
Connie takes her hand with hers and begins to sing.
🎵Let's go in the garden
You'll find something enchanting waiting right there for you🎵Steven takes Spinel's other hand joining Connie.
🎵Twinkling in the trees
When you finally see it, you'll see that there is beauty
The lights glimmer softly when you look around🎵Connie and Steven then sing in a duet showing Spinel that there won't be any pain.
🎵Everything shines right here all around you
Everythimg shines but the colors keep changing🎵Spinel looked at both of them with a small smile walking along with them.
🎵Ever so slightly, daily and nightly
In any way everything shines🎵"You see, Spinel, you're not alone, and I know I can't undo what my mom did to you and I'm not my mom. You're here with me and Connie and about to enjoy your very first Christmas with all of us." Steven held at the small of the pink gem's back with Connie beside him.
"Any bad experience can transform in a special one like this."
For Spinel, her first Festival of Lights became a memorable one now that she spent it with Steven, Connie and the Crystal Gems.
