"I really didn't want to have to tell anyone this but, the person I was talking to was... my mom. This device connects to a call service line to my home planet. I know it's risky but," Via grips her arms.
Gemerai picks up her pace a bit to put a hand to Via's back, "Via, it's okay. I know what it's like to be so far away from family. My Father is back on my planet, Pluto. I miss him dearly. He's the only one that let's me be me after all," Gemerai sincerefully smiles.
"Thanks for the comfort, Gemi," Via half smiles.
"Please don't call me that..."
"And moment ruined. Come on ladies let's catch up to the others," Leona puts her arms around the other two. They hustled to the rest of the small group.
Gemerai and Leona move up to the front of the group as Nino pulls Via behind them.
Nino talks low as she looks at the group, "that was a pretty good lie you just told them."
Via doesn't remove her gaze from the group either while talking in a low manner, "well, what else was I supposed to say? I can't tell them the truth just because they're my friends."
"But Gemerai said you didn't have to give an answer. That would have been better than lying."
"Yes, but then I would've looked even more suspicious. I gotta learn to keep my head cool in any situation. And whether I like it or not, I am, well, you know. So, I need to stay calm and focused even when being backed into a corner."
"Fair point, but you can't lie to them forever either."
Via gives Nino a look and Gemerai turns her head.
"So, Via," Gemerai starts, "how did your cooking retest go?"
"Yeah, about that. Let's just say the teacher and I made a deal. She'd give me a passing grade if I never step foot in the kitchen again."
"That bad huh?"
"Mhm, talk about splouge (spl- ow- ge) on the floor, splouge on the ceiling. It literally exploded then caught on fire. And I almost burned down the kitchen."
"Wow, I never would have thought someone like you would actually be bad at something," Gemerai smirks.
Leona raises a hand, "um, might I ask... what is splouge?"
"Oh, um, it's like chilly," Via tries to explain.
Leona raises an eyebrow, "Chilly?"
"You know, it has beans and meat, sometimes veggies. It can be spicy or it can be mild. It's a recipe that originated from earth. Our version is pink though, because of the ingredients from this planet."
"Earth sure is strange," Gemerai butts in.
"Don't you dare be dis'n my planet girl," Nino waves her finger around.
Gemerai holds up her hand in a defense, "I wasn't, but you have to agree, it is different from the rest of the universe."
"Yeah, cause it's infested with humans."
"And not to mention it's ruled by a male. Unlike the rest of the universe."
Nino gestures to Cynafel, "what about him? He's next in line. Has no siblings and he's gay which will mean a man will rule his planet."
Via butts in, "she has a point Gemerai."
"Two planets out of billions of planets. Congrats," Gemerai gives a thumbs up.
The teacher blows the whistle for them to go in. All the students begin to flood back in the building to get dressed.
"Well, you never know. There could be others," Via comments.
