Chapter 22

Averys POV

"So... let me get this straight... you guys celebrate the birth of a man that died. With a dead tree. And giving gifts to other people..." Ash says while laying her feet across my lap as I sit on the couch and she is laying there. All the demons are listening to me explain Christmas.

"Well... well yes. But! It's kind and loving. Not like jumping out at kids! Plus there is good food." I point out and all of them but Hades, who is reading a book, perks up.

"Well why didn't you say that in the first place love? What type of food?" Liam asks and Ash shoots him a glare. "I mean princess... not love." Liam says nodding and Ash lays her head back on the couch.

"I mean it's like thanksgiving meal with no turkey. It's more like ham." I say and play with Ashs shoe laces.

"Thanksgiving?" They all ask.

"Nope not explaining that one." I say throwing my hands up and then putting them back on Ashs leg. "In Blizton we mainly focus on deserts. On Christmas Eve we have a huge Christmas desert festival."

"We don't really have deserts in Erebus." Ash says. This is the first time I have heard the other sides name.

"Thats because you all have to be fit enough to be able to go to war at any moment. And we do have deserts. We have those brown sugar carrots." Hades says while reading his book.

"Mhm. Ya those are good." Zac says pointing to Hades with his arm around Delaney.

"You guys think carrots are desert?" I ask in shock.

"Yes." They all day in unison.

"Okay we are going to the store! You guys will taste some bomb cookies!" I say and I lift Ash's feet off my lap and stand up. I place her feet back on the couch.

"Everyone we are going to the town." I say smiling.

"No you are not." Hades says lightly and Ash stands up at that.

"We are going in a group so no one will question anything." Ash says with her hand on the small of my back. I feel shivers run through me as she leads me to the door. She hands me my coat and she puts on her leather jacket over a hoodie that is over a longs sleeve shirt. The other demons are dressed the same way except for Delaney who is in a pretty coat.

"Let's go." I say and we all walk out into the town. The demons walk around with stoic expressions. Delaney is in awe.

Ash walks next to me and gives people glares when they stare at us. Someone runs over to us. They are shorter than me. I look down at the kid. I feel Ash walk foreword to move the kid but I hold her wrist. I kneel down to the little girl. She smiles at me with a gleam in her eyes.

"You are very pretty princess." She says to me and I giggle a little.

"Now you are even more beautiful." I say with a smile. I feel Ash watching me. The little girl looks at Ash and looks back at me with worried eyes.

"Are the rumors true. Are they hurting you?" The little girl asks. My jaw drops. I look at Ash and her jaw is clenched. She rubs the back of her neck and kneels down next to me.

"Trust me." She says in s low voice. "I would never hurt Av-" she clears her throat, " Princess Avery. I am here to protect her. All of us are." Ash says and the girl stares at her.

"Why do you talk like that?" She asks and I laugh and she looks at me.

"Talk like what?" Ash asks me and I giggle and brush my finger on the girls hair.
