Chapter 41

Avery... Avery... Avery... Avery...

"Wake up!" Avery giggles over Ash on their bed. Avery is hitting Ash with a pillow to try and wake her up, "Wake you! You said you would take me to the lake today.

"Mm... why doesn't we just stay in bed." Ash says, turning to the blonde girl and catching the pillow.

"But you said you would bring me" Avery pouts her lip and Ash smiles. Avery jumps on top of Ash and the two laugh.

"Fine! We will go to the lake." Ash smiles while Avery laughs... that sound is the most beautiful thing she has ever heard. Avery sits up and kisses Ash, making both of them blush.

"Okay, Ash... time to search your memories." A voice in Ash's head says. This confuses the girl. The moment she was in felt so real, Ash forgot she isn't actually there.

"Ash we have to go." A young Hades tells an even younger Ash.

"What's going on, Dad?" The little girl asks while her Father picks her up and starts running, "Dad, what is going on?" Hades opens his mouth to speak but there is shouting coming from behind him.

Hades puts Ash down and kneels to her level, "Ash... get your mother and run. II will try and take out as many as I can. Don't worry... I will be back. I love both you and your mother. Make sure she knows that... okay?" Hades cups Ash's face while he speaks. The child nods.

"What is going on?" Ash looks like she is about to cry.

"No... you can't cry. You are a fighter. Your mother needs your protection. Be smart. Use your head..." Hades kisses Ash's head and then pushes her a little, so she knows it is time to go, "Be safe, protect your mother."

Ash nods and starts running, as fast as her little legs will take her, to her mother. Ash knows the palace already by this age. After many turns and stairs, Ash makes it to her mothers room. Opening the door, she sees two men with her mother. One is holding her down and the other is... just laughing.

"Get away from her!" Ash yells and the two men turn and laugh at the little girl who starts running towards them. Ash take the small pocket knife out of her pocket and slashes the laughing man's shins. He falls to the ground and Ash stabs his carotid artery.

The man holding Ash's mother knocks the screaming woman in the head, causing her to fall to the ground. Ash runs to the man and he easily smacks her across her face. Ash falls on the floor with a thump. The man picks up Ash's mother and stabs her deep in the stomach.

"I don't kill children,,, it is against my laws as a demon hunter... but, you killed my brother... so now you will have to watch your mother die." The man says, then he pulls his knife out of Ash's mother's stomach, picks his brother up, and leaves out the window.

Ash crawls over to her mother and puts pressure on her stomach, "Come on, mom.... come on, you're okay... you will be okay... you will be okay, I promise." Ash starts crying. Her mother reaches up and wipes the tear off her face, "Mom, don't leave me..."

Her mother's smile is the last thing she sees before her father rips her away from her mother, "No!" He screams in agony, "Penelope... don't die. Don't-" Her pules has already stopped. Hades slowly puts his wife down and turns to Ash.

"Dad... I-"

"I told you to protect her..."

"I tried-"

"No! You let her die! You killed her!" Hades yells as he strikes his daughter across the face. She falls to the now bloody floor, "You killed her!"
