Emily's Pov

"Are you ready to order?" The waitress asked as she looked between Nate and me.

"I would have the steak," Nate said as he watches the waitress write down his order.

"And for you?" She asked, looking at me.

"A Ceaser salad," I said as I handed her my menu.

I looked over at Nate, who was staring at the waitress as she walked away. I couldn't help but roll my eyes at him.

"So should I continue?" He asked as he looked at me.

"About?" I asked a little confused, making his smile falter a little.

"My high school experience," he answered like it was apparent.

"Oh yeah, please," I said with fake enthusiasm.

As Nate once again started talking about HIM, I couldn't help but zone out. He has repeated the same sentences over, and over the entire time, we have been sitting here. Not even once has he asked about me, because it's all about him.

I sighed as I took a small sip from my glass of wine.

A few minutes went by, and I was utterly bored out of my mind. I don't even think that Nate had noticed that I was on my phone because he was too busy talking about himself or checking out some waitresses.

"Here you go," I heard a feminine voice say, making me look up at the waitress as she placed our food on the table.

"Thanks, babe," Nate said as he shot her a wink making her roll her eyes at him before walking away.

We quietly sat there, eating our meals. This must probably be the best time this entire night.

"Good evening, is everything still alright here?" I heard a deep, somewhat familiar voice asked.

"Everything is perfect," I heard Nate say.

I slowly averted my gaze to the person standing at our table, and I immediately choked on my salad when I saw his face.

Instantly, I took a massive gulp of my wine- trying to swallow it due to the lump forming in my throat.

I watched as Luke's eyes widened, and his mouth forming an 'o' shape.

"Can we help you?".

I shook my head a little and stared at Nate, who was sitting there with an annoyed expression on his face.

I heard a faint 'no' followed by shuffling, indicating that Luke had left. Nate's gaze immediately turned to me, and a smirk was forming on his face.

I felt myself stiffen when Nate brushed his foot against my leg.

"So, are we taking this party to my place or yours?" He asked as his foot reached my thigh.

Immediately, I stood up from my seat- pushing it back and causing a loud screech.

"I-I have to go," I muttered as I almost sprinted out of the restaurant.

Once I was outside, I immediately called for a taxi and got in before it drove away.

*********

"Emily? Emily? Are you even listening?" I heard someone say, snapping me out of my thoughts.

I looked up at Amanda, who sighed as she just shook her head.

"I'm sorry. What did you say?" I asked as I fiddled with my fingers in my lap.

"I said that, Miss. Jenkins is coming by at one to take you out for lunch," she said, and I just nodded my head, not listening to what she was saying.

The entire day I could not stop thinking about Luke. I thought that after I had left, that I would never see him again, and to be honest, I would have liked it better that way. But now that I saw him, everything I went through came back.

•The hours of crying myself to sleep.

•The days I spent remembering every little thing we did.

•The days I saw him in other people.

•The days I spent destroying everything that would remind me of him.

Those days were the worst days of my life. I even think my dad had noticed that I wasn't acting normal.

He would sometimes come into my room and try calm me down.

Even though I didn't exactly know my father, he acted like I was the only good thing in the world. For those few months, we spend together. I forgot about him leaving me.

•Our movie nights.

•Our late-night snacks.

•Our constant friendly-arguing about which basketball team should win.

He changed everything in my life. He was the one who helped me forget about Luke.

I still remember the day Val and I had met. It was a Sunday afternoon, and she and Kyle were searching for a seat in the crowded Starbucks.

They were brave enough to walk up to me and asked me if they could join. Ever since that day Valerie and I had become best friends.

She was the one who comforted me when my dad had died. She even offered for me to go and stay with her and Kyle, but luckily for me, I had inherited everything my mom and dad had owned, making me be able to look after myself.

I sighed as I heard an eager voice boom from the other side of my office door. Knowing that it was Valerie, I lazily got out of my chair before grabbing everything I needed and headed out of my office.

"Let's go," I mumbled as I pulled Valerie with me towards her car before driving off.
