I spend the rest of the day wandering around Dauntless. For the first time since I'd arrived, I did not feel like training. After an hour of wandering, I just sat on the edge of a bridge above the chasm, thinking about everything. To be honest, I was tired. Tired of having to fight everyone. Tired that I had very little people I could rely on. Tired that the faction leader wanted me dead.
I wanted to talk to someone. Normally I wouldn't talk to many people but Kayli wouldn't shut up after school. I'd spend hours talking and mostly listening to her.
She's not here. She'll never be here. Just forget her already and go do some workouts. You can't afford to slack off yet. You can't afford to slack off at all!
In the end I decided to follow my brain and practised until I could barely walk back to my bed. It wasn't that late and the others weren't back yet. Without the energy to stay up, I fell asleep in my own bed and with my trusted knife under my pillow.
Later that night I got woken up by the door creaking. I pretended to be asleep but kept my ears open, which ended up being a good thing.
"She's here." Liz whispered.
I heard some weird noises probably made by Daniel.
"Oh hush!" Isa hissed on a silent tone "This is an opportunity!"
This is going the wrong way.
"Opportunity? What are you talking about?" Mike whispered back.
"She's sleeping."
"I can see that."
"She's vulnerable." Isa whispered with an isn't-it-obvious tone.
It just got dangerous.
"What are you implying?" Liz whispered suspicious.
"What do you think?" Isa hissed as I heard footsteps getting closer.
What do I do? Scare them off?
"Isa are you nuts?!" Mike and Liz whisper yelled at the same time.
"Shhh" she whisper shouted back. "Liz, just think about this. If she's gone, you'll have a definite spot in Dauntless."
"Are you kidding me?! What are you planning to do? Kill her? You don't even have anything to kill her with!" Liz groaned in frustration "That's not even the point! Isabella, You are not a murderer!"
"My name is Isa now. And I would become one for you!" she whisper shouted back. I could hear that she was about one or two meters away from me.
"As much as I would like to stay for your great friendship bonding," I said while jumping out of bed and scaring the shit out of everyone "I would like to get some more sleep."
Isa jumped back as if I'd just told her I killed her entire family and the others froze in fear.
"H-how long were you awake?!" Isa shouted at me. I could see that she was scared. Good.
"Like you could kill me." I whispered in her ear after I'd gotten my knife from under my pillow.
Her entire face became even paler than it already was and she involuntarily backed up. Daniel and Mike were still shocked by me being awake but Liz was eyeing Isa.
There's no way I'm sleeping here.
I pushed the others away and left the dormitory. Where to now? I could just go to Daryl. I could hear the silent footsteps of my shadow tailing me Or not. I could... go to the other dormitory? I thought about it. If I would just randomly enter their room. There would be two possibilities. One: They could wake up and I'd have to explain myself in front of a group of them. Something I would very much like to avoid. Two: They wouldn't wake up and I would have to explain myself the next morning.
I sighed and slumped down against the wall, which happened to be in the trainingsroom.
I could go to Eric's office with the hope that he'd be there. I doubt he would help me though. He'd probably laugh and dismiss me.
"Dammit." I muttered and punched the ground. Not long after the sound died out, I yawned. Or I could just sleep here and figure something out tomorrow. I looked at the ground. It was cold industrial looking stone but I decided that it was better than waking up with a literal knife in my back.
"Hey." I heard Four say. "Are you okay?"
I slowly opened my eyes. I was still so tired. I couldn't be 7:30 yet, right? Four was hunched over and inspecting me for injuries. I pushed myself up and blinked a couple of times to wake up. I saw Eric standing in the door opening looking confused. Huh I'd thought he would laugh.
"Yeah I'm fine."
"Then why are you sleeping on the ground?" he asked while pulling me up.
"Isa wanted to kill me and I'm not waiting for her to get a knife." I said after yawning again. "What time is it?"
"What do you mean kill you?" Four asked, completely ignoring my question.
"I mean as in suffocating me in my sleep, cutting my throat while I sleep... any other thing you could to kill me with while I sleep." I said bluntly as I glanced at the clock above Eric. "1 AM?! What are you doing here at 1 AM?"
Four glanced at Eric who hadn't said anything yet.
"We're getting the initiates." Eric replied to me.
"At 1 AM? Midnight training?" I guessed.
"Something like that." Four replied.
"Okay, I'll follow you." I said and walked to Eric.
