"welcome to pretzelmania. may i take your order?"

ashtray's eyes lingered over the jacobs girl who stood close to cassie's side, refusing to meet his eyes in turn while maddy handed the young boy the ticket.

"how many pretzels can i get you?" ashtray questioned, his words flying over maddy's head.

"we don't eat carbs." maddy deadpanned the boy, missing the eye roll lydia sent her way.

"three, please." cassie laughed it off, forcing his attention from the perez girl.

"that'd be sixty."

lydia was quicker than the two, her hand quickly coming up to give the boy the money. ashtray knew by the feel of the money that it was exceptionally more than what he'd ask for. he couldn't help but feel as if it was a bribe to keep his mouth shut in front of the two girls.

ashtray spared lydia one long look before he turned on his heel, going to retrieve what the girls had asked for.

"so, you think nate's cheating on you?"

maddy's head turned towards cassie in a quick matter before her eyes flickered to the jacobs girl standing between herself and the blonde.

lydia rolled her eyes at the look etched on maddy's features. "trust me, mads, i could not care less about your issues with my brother. as i've told you countless times, you deserve better. all nate will ever care about is himself and the image my family cares so fucking much about."

maddy nodded, letting the words settle between the three before replying to cassie's initial question. "i don't know. he's just been acting super weird lately."

lydia felt cassie's hand come to intertwine with her own. the brunette couldn't help but feel as if the howard girl only did so because she was hurt and looking for the comfort only lydia was always present to give.

"have you gone through his phone?" cassie glanced between maddy and lydia, the later's eyes intact on ashtray. "i've never not gone through someone's phone."

"bitch, you're my soulmate." maddy smiled brightly towards cassie, not missing the mock look of betrayal lydia sent her way. "you know i love you too, lyds."

lydia went to respond, but ashtray was quick to capture her attention before she could get the chance. he handed the three the pretzels, the molly they'd asked for hidden beneath the wrapper. cassie and maddy simultaneously thanked him before turning on their heels, the blonde nearly dragging lydia by her hand.
