If people need to, you can change the gender. Written with female reader, but written so I don't cringe reading my own work.

You awoke suddenly, sweat rolling down your forehead. A nightmare, but of what, you were unsure. Perhaps a memory, perhaps a vision, or maybe just something to torment you, keep you from your duties as commander.

But without context, the most you could do about it was try and clear the fear from your mind.

"How to clear your head, how to calm down, how to- FRESH AIR! Fresh air works… I hope…"

You exited the castle, murdering to yourself quietly.

"I am calm, I am brave, random night terrors cannot defeat the mighty (Name)!"

A soft rustling in the bushes jarred you from your thoughts. The night was windless, and you were the only soldier out of bed.

"Hello? Is anyone- AAAH!"

An arrow grazed your neck as a Vallite soldier exited the brush, bow drawn. Being the middle of the night in your own camp, you hadn't thought to bring your own weapons.

"Oh no oh no oh nO OH NO-"

A shuriken flew past your shoulder, embedding itself into the enemy's chest. The ghostly soldier fell to the ground, dissipating into purple mist. You turned to face your savior.

"Kaze?!"

"Lady (Name), I heard your scream and came to investigate. Are you alright?"

"He didn't get me. And- I didn't scream very loudly. Are you- are you stalking me?"

He looked down, a light blush covering his cheeks.

"I am only upholding my responsibility as your retainer, milady. If I'm not there for you, I'm afraid that you'll be injured, as seen tonight."

"Aww, you're blushing!"

He looked up slightly, a smirk playing on his lips.

"As are you. Though yours might be from the cold. Let's get you inside."

He held out his hand for you, which you took gratefully. Leading you into your room, he left you at your bed, returning moments later with a blanket.

"Thank you Kaze. Would you like to stay for a bit?"

His blush became more prominent as he looked anywhere but you.

"I'm afraid that if I were to stay, I'd say something I'd regret."

Your interest was peaked. "Something regrettable? You? Like what, you've fallen for me and are afraid I'd laugh at you?"

He finally met your eyes, a small pout on his lips.

"Oh my Gods, you do love me.

"I have to go."

You grabbed his wrist as he turned to leave, standing up.

"Would you stay if I told you that I loved you too?"

He turned to completely face you, wrapping his arms around your waist.

"Depends on how much you mean it, milady."

You smirked, draping your arms over his shoulders. "How about I show you?"

You pressed your lips to his, only pulling away once you needed air.

"How's that for proof?"

Kaze grinned, pressing his forehead against your own.

"You'll have to do better than that."
